Under Obama, `war on terror' catchphrase fading

Well, it should just be a law enforcement matter, right? Isn't that what D-student Kerry said during the 2004 campaign?
 
WASHINGTON – The "War on Terror" is losing the war of words. The catchphrase burned into the American lexicon hours after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, is fading away, slowly if not deliberately being replaced by a new administration bent on repairing the U.S. image among Muslim nations.

It's about effing time. At least this administration is smart enough to realize that you can't win a war against a concept. I mean, cripes. We lost the war on drugs, how long ago? 1998?

The USA needs to learn to treat terrorism appropriately - as a serious threat, but not as an excuse for incautious and poorly-planned unilateral action. Terrorism is a global disease that cannot be solved with violent action alone. The term "War on Terror" suggests that we only need to drive a couple tanks up to the right Afghan mountain and blow it to hell in order to enter a terror-free era. Anyone who believes that clearly needs to lay off the pipe.
