Thanks for the explanations! And for setting me straight on Glozam and Mephilas! I'd misplaced my set of Mebius eps during house-cleanning - before seeing them all. I'll definitely check out these later eps during the Fourth of July.
I'd been concerned about Leo's behavior because it seemed that he was being a jerk, rather than helping Mebius. And, I have to ask, if he was so concerned that Mebius was "unworthy", where was he during all those attacks? Specifically, during the first new monster attack during which the original GUYS team got killed?
On the other hand, I definitely liked the way UltraSeven assisted GUYS' gals, especially Konomi. Perhaps an additional reason he chose her was because her glasses reminded him of his morpher? And, Seven revealed his prescence to a human? Hmm, seems like the Ultras were becoming a bit more open since Mebius came out ...
Your explanation reminds me a lot of Dyna Episode #27, "The Kraken Won't Surface, Part II", when Mai, the smallest, most sheltered member of the team, had to board the stricken super-fortress in a torpedo to re-program the computers. She stepped up quite admirably, and was really bad-ass, in both senses of the word. And, best of all, in her way.
It just seems to me, with all this picking on Mebius, that it needlessly diminished him, causing him to be disrespected by the fans, in spite of his greatest achievements. He destroyed the all-powerful Emperor, something that not even Ultra Father could do. After coming back from the dead ...
What worries me though, is that humanity can't stand on its own, not even in the time of Zeta Associates Pioneers, which is hundreds, if not thousands, of years down the road from GUYS' time, without the help of active Ultras. Bolis' civilization was virtually wiped out, with Ultraman himself being immobilized.
No problem on the explanations.
To be fair to Leo, he...did not take his adventures all that well. They kinda scarred him, as well they should. He, and later Seven, reflect how dark a time they had, though Seven matured a bit better for it.
Also Leo never showed up earlier because the Earth wasn't thought to be under the kind of threat of the Emperor-until the Imperializer showed up anyways. And when THAT happened Father DID order Mebius to return home-Mebius just out right refused.
So they were going to replace him. It's just he then discovered the power of Nakama and saved the day with help from Taroh.
Leo wasn't satisfied by that and wanted to ensure he was dedicated enough.
As for where he was-the Ultras can fly pretty damn fast, but they aren't THAT fast. Even with advanced warning, Taro still got to the Earth late and he was going to replace Mebius.
An Ultra like Leo, who's more of a free agent, wouldn't have likely been anywhere near to help.
I'll cover the last bits together. First, while its true that Father alone couldn't kill Emperor....Emperor couldn't kill Father either. They equally crippled each other, leaving war wounds that will never heal.
Also, Mebius in his Fused form didn't kill the Emperor alone.
Don't get me wrong, Fused Mebius IS very powerful...but he's not actually all that powerful.
He's a bit more powerful then the average Ultra, such as Seven or Ultraman, but he doesn't go TOO far in that regard. We know this because of the way he puts down Emperor- with human assistance. Specifically the last weapon humanity created to fight with Ultras, a device that amplified the power of an Ultra Being's finisher.
And not only that, but Zoffy was there as well. So it was a combined effort of Zoffy, Mebius and humanity that killed Emperor-while the other Ultras healed the sun.
Which kind of leads into the next point...
Seven's dream is to see humanity stand on its own...but that's a flawed dream. I think even he realizes it.
In reality, what others, like Zoffy, are working towards is making humanity equal to Ultramen. Making them their partners.
And I think that's getting more and more likely.
Mind, I think the peak of that was back with UltraSeven and the Garrison, but Mebius and Crew GUYS is a close second for Ultra/Human partnership.
