Ginga, Hmmmmm....................
Well, I waited to see 6 episodes on DVD before having an opinion......and truth be told, as expected, it's mostly not brilliant - pretty much a holding pattern from a bankrupt company.
I'd rather have had a decent movie (which "Ultraman Saga" obviously wasn't) than these low rent episodes. The ideas are not too bad and occasionally there's a top flight action scene, but mostly it's kind of embarassing when the camera cuts to a six dollar plastic action figure of Ultraman Taro as the main protagonist (and someone is shaking his leg off screen to indicate emotion). You'd think the make up people could have done better with Ginga's host's chronic acne problem too........
It's tough times for Ultraman fans - but if we can make it through to the 50th Aniversary in 2016 maybe things will start to look up - here's hoping!.........
Meantime, even lacklustre, super-cheap jobs like Ginga are better than nothing. (And it has a decent theme tune).
