Recently an auction was held in which Kevin Eastman put up for bid some sketches that he did for designs for characters for a 4th Live Action TMNT movie that was planned to be MUCH darker and less light hearted than the previous ones.

To that extent, he also created a fifth turtle Kirby named after the legendary Marvel Comics artist himself

You know you've stumbled upon the really nerdy stuff when you find out facts like this. What's worse is, you'll never forget facts like this either. You'll always be able to spout them out randomly when the topic comes up. If Ninja Turtles was ever a franchise you enjoyed, after reading this, you'll never be able to forget about Kirby, the Ninja Turtle that almost was.

I've all ready admitted to being a nerd myself, so please don't take this as a comment against other nerds.

Also, Kirby would have predated Venus had the movie gone through.

Really, the most interesting thing about those designs is that, at first glance, they seem ridiculous and stupid in the way 90s comics designs tended to be...

... Then you realize, given the artist involved, that's probably the point.

Much like how the original TMNT was a subtle parody of the storytelling and artstyle of Frank Miller in the 80s, these designs are a similarly subtle parody of the storytelling and artstyle of Rob Leifeld in the 90s.

It makes me believe the movie probably wouldn't have been as dark as you'd imagine and I'm a little sad now it never got made.

... Then again, I seem to be one of the few people on the planet who liked TMNT 3 so I can't say I'm the best judge of quality. :P

If you want to go even further down the rabbit hole, the names on the character designs for the two humans labeled "Lawson" and "Talbot" are direct references to Jim Lawson and Eric Talbot, two of the artists that worked on the Mirage TMNT comics.

And "Kirby" looks an awful lot like Slash.
