Things I hate About Heisei Riders

I've seen episodes of Kuuga and Agito. I was still interested that time, because I'm a Masked Rider fan. They're not perfect. At all. But they at least remotely have the Masked Rider spirit. I only saw two episodes of Ryuuki, and that was the last straw. That was where the Masked Rider series completely sold out. Plus, the designs get uglier with each show. They look just like the rejected conceptual designs from the earlier Heisei Rider movies Ishinomori himself did. There's trouble when Ishinomori's company gradually begins to lose control over the franchise. (Also because the company is having an inside struggle over its control. Not good.)

So essentially, you're just assuming things? Kuuga and Agito were darn good series with compelling characters and amazing plots throughout, you're never going to be able to form an accurate opinion of those shows if you just see a few episodes. Personally, I think they were some of the best series in the franchise, sure, there are a few frustrating moments, but what series can claim not to have any? I had thought you at least actually saw a few more Heisei series after that since you always make the claim that they've "lost their spirit" (I will agree, there are some shows that feel like that). You can't properly judge whether something has sold out or not if you never even take the opportunity to watch a series and base things solely on design.

Honestly speaking if he hasn't seen the series, his opinion on them really isn't valid. I mean it's easy to say stuff sucks, but if you haven't seen the stuff you really have no idea.

I don't exactly agree with this. All opinions are valid, because opinions are just expressions of taste. They don't have to make any sense. A guy can look at a photo of Kuuga and go "That looks incredibly stupid," and relative to that guy, his opinion is perfectly valid.

People just kid themselves when they think their personal opinion of a photo or two episodes or whatever is going to matter in any way to anyone who's seen the full series. It's just foolish to use that opinion of a photo or two episodes or whatever as a basis for speaking with authority about something that bored you so much you didn't want to finish it.

There's always going to be someone who knows more about the material than you and will be able to easily say "You don't have your facts straight." Then you either have to watch a series you dislike in order to stay in the conversation, or... well, accepting looking foolish.

I get sick of hearing people bitch about how "un-Ishinomori-like" some of the new Rider shows are, especially when most of those shows have a lot more to offer than a lot of those older series' that people are so stuck up about. Change in itself is not a negative quality; as happy as you may be with the formula, almost every single one of the pre-80's Rider shows were almost exactly the same. Why see the same thing over and over again when you can get some fresh ideas? That was the downfall of Hibiki, which was actually a really solid show. A lot of people didn't even give it a chance because "it didn't have the feel of a Rider show" and yet they tuned in every week to watch that pus-nuts Den-O do something retarded for 20 minutes. I'll never understand Toku fans.

That being said, the thing I hate most about Heisei Rider shows: drama.

In the admittedly very few Hensei era Kamen Rider shows I've seen, the one thing that I've never cared for was the apparent lack of a villain presence. There are the weekly MOTDs, but they seem to be just random attacks, not really organized. Not like what Black and Black RX had (in the whole combined 8 episodes I've seen from those)

In the past two years there has been Kai and King, which are what I consider to be steps in the right direcion, but I hope for more of those in the future.

Really? Kai? Kai was so random it was even funny. He just showed up out of nowhere for no apparent reason, but i digress. So what about Faiz? Remember the Smart Corporation? That didn't seem random to me, it was basically an organization just like Crisis. What about Agito? The Lord of Darkness? Can get a stronger villain than that. The attacks he ordered where not random at all. Zeckt in a way was also an evil organization in Kabuto. As for others like Blade and Ryuki, their stories where very different it didn't need an evil organization or a master mind. The evil they fought came in a different style.

The only Kamen Rider series I have seen are Hibiki (My first Kamen Rider series), Ryuki (HKs) Den-O, and Kiva.

I stopped watching Kabuto after around episode 12-ish, but am planning on giving it another shot.

What I liked about Kai is that he was a villain that had nothing to lose. Could he have been utilized and developed better? Hell yes, but for the first time in the again, admittedly small amount of time I've been watching Kamen Rider, the enemy had a face other than the rubber suits.

While I do not care for Nexus myself, it was a step in a new direction. It was a chance for change. I am all for that.

He made it clear that he was speaking about the overall shows. Since he has not seen these shows by his own admission, then his opinions on those shows are invalid. They would only be valid in this case if he had seen them. Take my stance on the DBZ movie. My opinions on it are not valid as I have not seen the movie.

I find that scenario quite frightening. Most people can't stand at least a maximum of 3 episodes of Hibiki; yet Den-O is praised to no end. :sly:
