Earlier this week, the United States passed a ban on a European confection produced by Nestle called the Kinder Surprise Egg

For those of you who are old enough to recall the original Nestle Wonderball that contained the small toy inside the hollow chocolate orb, it's very similar to that, except that the toy comes in a big yellow pill that sometimes take a bit of assembly.

If you are found in possession of the candy, you can be fined upwards of 300 dollars

It's less "overbearing mothers" and more "US has remarkably higher safety standards than most other countries".

"Easily swallowed tiny toy wrapped in chocolate" is kind of a hard sell in that context.

We have a huge collection of the toys from the Kinder Surprise egg, we used to get a huge box from Germany annually.

So I'm going to be fined for having a piece of candy in my pocket just because a few dumb ass mothers allowed their kids to choke on them? No one in Europe has complained yet this just goes to show the ignorance that resides in our country.

From what I understand, they've never been available or allowed in the US. So it wasn't like this was banned recently or anything.

Also I'm glad they're spending money to stop importation of such dangerous items as this. National security, yo.

They'll never be able to stop me if I EAT IT BEFORE I LAND IN THE US. They can't fine me for just the toy!

... or CAN THEY D:<
