THE OVERRATED MOVIE THREAD

I have a new one. 2010s Princess Ku'ialani, telling the story of the last ruler of Hawaii.

Her actual story (even more annoying, since it's a special feature on the DVD) Hawaii became very rich & powerful through trading in the 1800s, which caused American interests fresh out of the US Civil War to buy up a lot of land & open plantations there. These people were not fans of the Hawaiian policies imposed on them & staged a coup, forcing the Hawaiian king to sign a new constitution, pretty much granting these American plantation owners all the power they wanted that they had lost after the US Civil War. To protect her, the king's niece & her Scottish father fled to England where she went through Boarding School, but was almost forced to marry the son of an acquaintance of her father's. While she was gone, however, her uncle died, passing his throne onto his sister. She tried to take a firm hand with the plantation owners & fix what they'd done wrong, but they used connections to bring in US troops & conquer the island, making it a US territory fully governed by them. Ku'ialani found out & tried to plead with President Garfield to fix the problem, but failed as she caught him at the very end of his term. The new President McKinley refused to give up Hawaii & even pressued it into statehood. Ku'ialani moved back home & became an activist, trying to at least get rights for her people, but died one year after it was named a state from an infection she got while horseback riding during a storm (those with her during the incident actually saying she refused to seek shelter simply because she had given up on life & told them it didn't matter if she did or not)

The movie? The editing is confusing & they skip over everything that could even possiblly cause an inkling of dramatic tension after introducing it for five seconds. This goes back to why the editing is confusing, we keep getting scenes that go along the lines of "I hate you" "You don't mean that" "yes I do" * random ass scene of them running around on a beach/ biking/ getting to know one another* Problem is magically solved & never referanced again. The thing that really bothered me is that they seemed to do some of these things because the plot points were cliched (having a bitch of a headmistress at boarding school, being bullied, etc) yes they also make innacurate changes to the story which are also cliched! They turn the supposed forced marriage into an actual love affair & have them break up when she learns her "fiance" was keeping secrets from her & turn a person who was a VERY close & trusted family friend & turn her into the evil headmistress, only to have her disappear after two random scenes & come back a completely changed person.

I SOOOO want to do a review of this movie, though. It is so damn easy to riff! But, I'm putting this here because it actually won an award. I couldn't tell what it was, but it got one. The movie has charm, but its horribly edited & historically inaccurate & could have been a million times better if they'd actually tried.

Prometheus was lame...everyone was under developed and alien infected sex was the cause of Aliens...BAWAHAHAHA
Sorry for giving you a bitch fit about this.
Actually I believe Prometheus falls under underrated:redface2:
Sure most of the characters were underdevelop, but the alien that appeared at the end was very different.
Plus the movie was about the Space Jockeys, NOT the Aliens!!!!
