Superman Doomsday - Discussion Thread

I personally Think this was a Completely awesome movie I plan on buying it when i can cause For one I have never seen Death in a cartoon like that I was shocked when i saw some of the stuff that happend My jaw literlly Dropped And 2 The voices worked really really well at first Anne Hesch kinda annoyed me in the beggining of the movie but it grew like real fast and 3 I just really liked the way it was done every bit of it from Doomsday to Toyman to freakin Lex This is a Must buy IMO

Keith, you DO know Doomsday didnt talk in the original version right? He only managed to say a few things, Predator-like, like "Muuuuhtroopolissss", but that was virtually it.

I DID NOT know this, but that doesn't make a difference to me. Retelling of stories for me doesn't hinge on how it mirrors the original, but how it tells the story on its own.

And the cold, calm, but explosive savagry of the JLU Doomsday is far better than the one I saw so far in Superman: Doomsday.

I also couldn't help but think, about even for the original story.... how much better would it have been if Supes was on the frontline against Darkseid and Apocholypse and when down fighting Darkseid for all the world to see.

A true HUGE sacrifice against an incredible foe to save the entire world.

Him dying in the street against some monster... just seems........ *shrug*

Definately not a fitting end for THE Man of Steel.

Another big minus. In this world, Superman stands as its only superhero. And that's a world I find infinately lame. Part of the Death of Superman is not just its impact on the world, but on the Superhero world.

Seeing so many great heroes attend his funeral was an awe inspiring thing to behold.

Seeing him just be the only superhero.... man, that's just a bleek world. :P

eh, i saw it.... it just further cemented how much of a walking deus ex machina superman is.

then again i read the original story, and this one was kinda lacking of the other members of the JLA, but eh, this is superman's movie. (kinda hard to retcon punch that away...)

what i didn't get was the fact that it didn't deal with the rest the of the death and return of superman, leaving out 4 key peopple: steel, the eradicator, the cyborg, and superboy. i mean, the movie hinted at what could've been their appearances on the movie, but ultimately skipped them over altogether.

that's what pissed me off. doomsday not saying a word was cool. giving superman his doomsday mullet was cool. berserk super clone? cool. absensce of JLA and JSA? fucking copasetic. but not putting in the original story's integral characters? wtf?

but your being Unfair Keith. The film is "An adaptation of Death of Superman"

And you keep going to how JLU adapted the story years later. It's like them adapting a G1 comic arc into a new movie and saying "It didn't do it as well as Bays Transformers"

You can say all you want about the actors and the character designs because those are valid points....but you can't honestly say "They adapted it too perfectly....it should have been like the JLU adaptation that came 10 years later!"

But another way to look at it is that this is DC-animated first movie offering and much like Marvels "Ultimate Avengers" Was weak sauce....yet by the time they got to 4th film Doctor Strange the films were kicking ass and taking no prisoners. so lets wait till AFTER New Frontier comes out to pass judgment on what DC can accomplish.
