Star Trek (2009) Trailer

That was pretty cool. It felt nothing like classic Trek. Wish I saw more Kirk (acting wise), but I am looking forward to seeing more of this movie.

Hmmm. I stll don't know how to feel about that I-Pod looking bridge but as a look into more aspects of the characters Kirk and Spock this could be really cool. I'd love it if they had a scene that showed Kirk cheating the Kobyashi Maru test.

From other pictures I have seen I like how they basically kept the classic look for the uniforms while giving the designs a tweak and updating the materials used. I've seen one pic of the Enterprise and it looks good, again mostly the original look but they tweaked things where they were most needed which in this case was the warp nacels <--(sp?) and the deflector dish. As much as I love the Flash Gordon esque one from the original series I can see why they wouldn't go with that.

I'm assuming this is a movie with its own continuity and not tied into the body of any previous Trek series?

I think so. There's "elements" of the original continuity, just the same as "elements" of Superman I and II were in Superman Returns, and the same as Judi Dench still portraying M in the Daniel Craig movies, which are now established as an obvious reboot

This is essentially using the Japanese method of "so loose it's practically evicted" continuity for their Godzilla and anime movies (DBZ anyway)

I have to say I really love the new uniforms, they look just like the old ones but with, like, bump mapping haha.

It'll annoy me a little bit if this is meant as a reboot. It just seems like too much to take a story that spans 700 episodes and 10 movies, everyone one of them canon, and then just start over. I mean, there are some things that would make annoying additions to the canon like Spock being so angry and going around choking people and Chekov being on the bridge before TOS season 2, but as long as there isn't anything like Kirk having a fistfight with a Romulan it should fit in fine.

For some reason I was under the impression that it was a prequel...but I'm not familiar enough with the original Star Trek series. I mostly watched Next Gen growing up.
