Star Trek (2009) Trailer

I personally don't mind if this is a remake of the original Star Trek, because this actually looks like it's going to be good! I think they'll reintroduce characters like Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty and others to a new generation (I like the actors playing them; they look almost like the original actors!), and make Star Trek cool again. It'll even get some people interested in the original series again! Hopefully, this movie will retain everything I thought the shows after Next Generation lacked (I'm sorry, but everything starting with DS9 was utterly pedestrian). The Star Trek franchise looks to be in good hands with JJ Abrams.

Maybe this movie will blow away the oft-blown away Star Wars franchise.

Did you even watch DS9? I'm sorry, but IMO anyone that has really watched it would not call it as you did unless they had not seen it, or were not a trek fan. DS9 went outside the normal for star trek.

Yes, I've watched DS9 a lot, and was bored by it. There were a few good episodes, though. (The best, hands down, being the "Trouble with Tribbles" episode.)

I think there was some some good action, great space battle shots and effects and Worf is always fun even when the plot is stupid, but all the post=Next Gen stuff really suffered from having a head writer who was very cynical about the Star Trek future. ..and jesus christ, Star Trek without the dream of exploration, the optimism? What's the fucking point? You can go anywhere in sci-fi for future times that totally suck. Ideally, Star Trek offers something else.

As for the TNG movies, Voyager, and Enterprise? Let's just say IMO Trek needed a break a loooong time before the one it's been on.

My thoughts exactly! Next Generation at least had everything I loved about Star Trek in general.

Whatever DS9 did, Babylon 5 already did better. Star Trek did not need to become B5. The cynicism was so forced, and it made me sick. I won't say anything about Voyager (I haven't watched it much), because the franchise had lost me by then.

If this new Star Trek movie is a remake of the original series, it might as well be a good idea. The original universe was diluted by Enterprise (I hate retroactive continuity; Look at what it did to Star Wars and Gundam), and made it seem dated. At least they're attempting to use all of the original characters, and make them accessible to a new generation. JJ Abrams is doing something exciting with the characters, and will hopefully keep the spirit of the original! I'd like to see how well it goes.
