Samurai Sentai Shinkenger - Talk Up!

Jetman's cast was ludicrously good... in part because it had some very well-worn archetypes to play with, since it was an extended Gatchaman homage. Black Condor is great because he's drawing on 30 years of Joe the Condor-type characters and is, in some ways, the best of all of them.

Dekaranger: Sen and Umeko were partnered together ALOT, far more than Mako and Takeru have been. Though I'll admit Dekaranger was an odd beast in a issue like this, as the real episode that brought this up and such was kinda out of nowhere late in the series.

Magiranger: . . . You know the subtext was there ever since Hikaru's debut right? You know, the whole "Princess and the Frog" thing? I wasn't even watching sentai at that point (Just Power Rangers at that point. I was just following rumors for what would the source for the next PR season.) and yet even I called it back when I heard about that aspect. Mako doesn't have anything like that for Takeru. The few moments you could say she does, she has also had for just about EVERYONE ELSE ON THE TEAM. Replace Mako with Kohota though, and oh boy do you actually have a case there though.

Indeed. I stopped religiously watching after Deka. Since then I've done the first few eps, ranger debuts and the last few. Shinken is the first in awhile I've watched all the way through. BoukenRed was cool, but I disliked the rest of his crew.

Yeah, same here. So, I dunno, maybe I'm inclined to be forgiving? But while the show isn't perfect, there are some things about its writing style I find really interesting and admirable. It's a character-driven Super Sentai about characters I don't detest and it hits some other personal buttons, too.

You know, I can't remember anything about BoukenRed's crew. That's a pretty damning criticism by itself, when you think about it....

I didn't mind Jan so much. But then, Geki was also the first Sentai I watched while it was on, so maybe it was just because I didn't know any better. :loltongue:

I loved Jan...but then again I also loved Kai, the only one I disliked from the three was Ban. Kai was your typical rash teenager with daddy issues later on, Jan was totally disconnected from society with daddy issues later on, but it always seemed to me like Hiroki Suzuki had fun in the role and made Jan a heck of a lot less annoying than he sounded on paper.
