Practical Effects VS CGI in Toku

I don't think it's an issue of one verses the other. Both can be great tools when used correctly.

I made a short film, and one guy got electrocuted. We got the effect by using an iPhone flashlight app set to strobe, and shined it on another character's face, with a sound effect.

There are some cases where CGI just isn't needed for the effect.

When did they change the sentai's sparks to CGI? :o
I didn't really notice..
Speaking of sparks, here's something from a making-of of the Den-O saraba movie.

They've had it here or there since about Boukenger, then went a little more than half with cgi at Go-Onger. Then from Shinkenger on it's been 90% cgi. You only get the good stuff if it's a big a attack or the freakin Finale.

When I think of it, Gokaiger was like 99% cgi sparks. Smh :disappoin

CGI doesn't ruin toku for me, but I prefer puppets and models to CGI. Besides, there are ways to do special creatures without CGI.

I'll give a pass for any CGI that makes the suit actors safer, but overall low budget suits and puppets beat low budget CGI. Same for high budget versions too, but high budget CGI at least puts up a better fight.
