[J-DRAMA] New Live Action GTO - Talk UP!

Jacky, after you watch the anime, I would recommend reading Daimon's arc if you enjoyed the last two eps of the live action.

As for the special, I can't wait for October to come.

I might read Shonan 14 Days after watching the anime and the SP in October. hopefully I don't take too long to complete the anime though.

Just saw the last episode. Man, that was a gooooood show. I was very very satisfied by the last episode I just wish there was more. I can hardly wait for the special. I wont go into spoilers or anything but I found one part in the last episode almost hard to watch, it was good and really got across what it was trying to say but boy, that scene somethings made me look away from the screen for a bit. I think I can officially say this is my favourite show of 2012 (that did not start in 2011). I think huge props have to go to all of the actors in the show especially AKIRA of course and I think spical mention has to go to Tayama Ryosei who was Vice Principal Uchiyamada, played that character to a T. I hope that this show did well when it aired I hope maybe next year there will be some more episodes. I like to think that GTO is something that can go on forever because there is always asshole adults and there is always teenagers with problems that Onizuka can salve with his GTO powers. All-in-all, great show!

alright, I'm already up to GTO anime's ep 33 and since GTO 2012 is a compact version of the anime series, here are some points that I've quite curious about in the drama...

- during the earlier eps of the drama, we're shown that Miyabi and Urumi are against each other like their anime counterparts. in between them, Kikuchi kept questioning their motives against each other and Onizuka, which sorta gave an impression that Kikuchi is on Onizuka's side, at least to me. cue mid-series onwards and after Miyabi became nice, Kikuchi took over the antagonism role. why make him a carbon copy of Sho? were they planning to use Sho as a character plot device to turn Kikuchi into the nice guy??

- Teshigawara was shown to have an obsession with Fuyutsuki and he swore he would do anything to get rid of Onizuka and have her all to himself. but after an ep or two, we never got an explanation why he was obsessed with her, but we were shown bits of him working together with the other teacher (can't remember his name) to get him fired at all costs. unless I didn't pay attention to the drama, it was stated in the manga/anime that he was greatly pressured by his father to succeed at anything he does which caused this mentality problem.

- revised the seat plan on the official GTO website and... what in the world is Ota Hidemi doing on the attendance list?! in the anime, she wasn't a student at Seirin Academy nor Onizuka's class student, but just some random teenage bitch who wanted to get back at Onizuka for humiliating her in public. she did mentioned that she wanted to transfer to Seirin Academy after Onizuka rescued her but did she eventually any where in the manga??

- I wonder why they didn't keep the Murai/Kujirakawa plot and instead replaces her with Haruka, probably a drama exclusive character, instead??

anyways, I can't wait to get to Noboru/Anko arc since I'm almost there! I would've loved it more if they kept Anko's tsundere-ness towards Noboru in the drama, but too bad they're only limited to 11-12 eps.

It didn't make much sense for them to make Kikuchi's mom Daimon and his personality a bit like Sho.

Teshigawara, if you gotten past that part in the anime, eventually has a mental breakdown. The manga explains why he is like he is, cause his father and brother were great legislator people and stuff. He was pressured to be like them and such I believe. It's been awhile since I've watch/read the anime/manga. The 1998 drama did a pretty good job on his story a bit, focusing on his obsession with Fuyutsuki (his family wasn't mention)

Ota Hidemi, I don't remember any transfer students. She just ends up grateful after Oni rescues her from the yazuka.

The only classmate you don't see is Mayu, who is like Urumi in the beginning and ditches school. But he doesn't appear in the anime nor the 98's series. His story is apparently being adapted for the special in October. One or two his traits were merged with Sho in the 2012.

You'll get some good Anko/Nooru when you reach the school trip/vacation part.

Kikuchi is such a likable character in the anime that it's sad recalling that live action Kikuchi is a total bastard. as for Miyabi, I hated her since the first episode in the drama and even after she turned nice, I still hated her. but looking at her anime counterpart now, I guess it's safe to say that live action Miyabi is nothing...

did I mention that it was kinda ridiculous to make Murai the mastermind behind the composite pictures instead of Kikuchi?! I mean, he obviously looks too computer dumb to be a genius at photoshop.

^Yup. Didn't make much sense for Murai to be the one behind the photoshops.

Anyway, I just finished watching the SP. It was good. Can't say if that's how it ended in 14 Days since I haven't read the ending yet.

Only thing I didn't like is that they made Mayu the adopted son of that Diet member and that he wanted to be part of that guy's family. Totally different from the manga cause he's the leader of a motorcycle gang composed of delinquent students. But you know, it's an adaption and all. Really wished they left Mayu as the grandson of the Director, cause she actually gets pissed off at Oni for injuring Mayu when Mayu came back to school, even though she knew it wasn't Oni's fault. You hardly ever see her get really pissed off.

when Mayu started showing his true colors (and I knew he was too suspicious to actually admire Onizuka), I was like "fuuuck... another Shibuya Sho?" loved the Meet Cute scene between him and Katsuragi though. I kinda grinned.

The new live-action GTO television remake series will receive a two-hour special in January. EXILE dance/vocal group member Akira (pictured at right) will reprise his role as Onizuka, a former gang member who becomes an unorthodox teacher. The "GTO Oshōugatsu Special" (GTO New Year Special) will follow the show's characters during a "troubled" week between Christmas and New Year's Eve.

The special will guest star another EXILE member, Matsu (pictured far right), as a mysterious cabaret club manager who is observing Onizuka. The special will also star Yuta Hiraoka (Mirai Nikki: Another World), AAA band member Misako Uno, bikini model Mitsu Dan, and actor Ren Osugi (The Twilight Samurai).

In the special's story, Onizuka throws a Christmas party for his students before the winter break, but Miki (played by Mariya Nishiuchi) alone feels depressed. Additionally, Miki and her classmates attend a short cram school session during winter break featuring a new handsome teacher (played by Hiraoka). Also, Onizuka's policeman friend Saejima Toshiyuki (played by Yusuke Yamamoto) rescues a mysterious woman named Maria while on patrol, and he finds three abandoned infants at Maria's apartment.

The special will air on January 2 at 9:30 p.m.

Tohru Fujisawa's original manga has 45 million copies in print, and it previously inspired a 1998 live-action television series with Takashi Sorimachi in the title role. The earlier live-action version garnered an average rating of 28.5% and a series-high rating of 35.7% for the finale. The 11-episode remake live-action series starring Akira aired in July-September, and also received a special in October.
