TVN, but it wasn't one of their big projects that year. What I heard is that they tended to insert jokes and other obviously made-up stuff into the subs at points. I never watched the subs myself so it's just what I heard.

Ryukendo has gotten highly overrated in recent years. Some real nuts even claim it to be one of the best tokus out there :laugh:

Why does that make them nuts? I consider Ryukendo to be within my top ten tokusatsu series, simply because it has a more relaxed attitude, a better cast than most shows, and it has a sense of comedy that doesn't overpower the more powerful moments.

I always thought Ryukendo was a Rider/Sentai parody, which actually made it even more enjoyable to me.

The writers handled it very well, and the episodes could go from extremely silly to extremely serious. The comedy was not as overdone as one might think.
It will always be one of my favourite shows

They're nuts because there are so many other better examples of good toku out there. It's not really a slight against Ryukendo. I agree on the last two of your statements, but 'relaxed attitude' automatically makes it better than other shows?

A great toku, or any superhero media, should be something with a message and/or symbolism relevant to real life. Something inspirational. Ryukendo is a nice break from the giant Toei franchise machines, but.... there really isn't anything outstanding about it. What did it do tht was so great it merits such high accolades? I think a lot of people are giving it too much credit simply because it's not a Toei or Tsuburaya show. If it's not from the giants, it has to be great. Not so, as Tomica Hero is sadly proving.
