I'm what you might call a listening learner. I learn everything better by listening to it. Does anyone know of any good software out there to teach Japanese. Tapes or CDs would work too.
Go to your local bookstore and buy a beginner's book. They usually come with an audio CD to accompany the lessons. Books are your best bet short of taking a class.
Nothing beats taking a class, which is what I'm ultimately gonna do myself.

There are programs called Rosetta stone. Now if you really do learn by listening well you have great source material. Watch a **** load of Kamen Rider and Sentai until you pick up on phrases.
Thing is, though, learning the language sometimes isnt enough. You wont pick up on slang or slurs, and you wont pick up on dialects nor how to write or read Japanese.
I would suggest you try to find some good software programs like Rosetta Stone just to get you started and while you are teaching yourself, you should look for a class in your area.
A class will help you the most. If it's a language you want to learn, why would you want to take any shortcuts and cheat yourself of really learning everything you need to know to hold that conversation with the cute Japanese girl of your dreams?
Hello Kenori,
For some real advice on learning Japanese, go to any bookstore and buy a home study course. Don't worry about getting the best one and don't pay too much for it. You will not be getting too much use out of it anyway. Study it the best you can, trying to learn the basics. After you feel comfortable with that find a course. And also you can try free online audio courses on the net. http://japanese.about.com/od/japaneselessons/u/StartLearning.htm Learn Japanese Review
