Kamen Rider Wizard, Ep 7 - "Buying Memories"

Wizard 7:

- I just noticed the guy who plays Yamagata was Lio Sazer in Sazer X.

- A Smell Ring? What purpose could that have beyond bad olfactory jokes? :redface2: I'd prefer a Smoke Ring, plus it would be a better pun.

- Why is Rinko speaking to her boss like a cutesy schoolgirl?

- Gnome posing with his hands behind his back reminds me of the Travelocity Roaming Gnome.

- For a moment I was going to object to Yamagata buying the house and giving Manami a happy ending without earning it. But he said he would only hold it until she could buy it from him. An investment, in essence. Good job there.

This was a good episode for showcasing Wizard's heroic image. The scenes between Haruto and Manami were the best (though I wonder how Haruto lost his family), and it reminded me a bit of the tail end of Garo where Kouga learned to be a nobler hero rather than a simple exterminator.

It seems like it will next episode though that could just be them toying with us with the trailer at the end.

As far as I understand it Gates seem to be very one tracked individuals, they cling to one thing in their life to give them purpose or meaning but by forcing them to accept a truth about their situation seems to lessen the chance of them braking and becoming a phantom.

That said nothings stopping phantoms from trying again but with their eyes opened it must make it a great deal harder to 'open' the gate.

Yeah, that's my feeling re: Gates as well. The pianist obviously became less and less susceptible to the feeling of despair, especially after he discovered the new goal of living in the present and not the past. Minami I think probably had "let go" of her past as well, and even though she has a new goal of buying the house from the man who is holding it for her, I don't think she will be as easily turned even if they targeted her again. And the series will probably be moving on since there are still many more characters to be introduced.

Best case scenario is that if the phantoms get the Sabbat we will see them all again to be used as the victims like Haruto was from the eclipse ritual, which would be rather cool to see all the gates that were saved.

I really feel that Wizard that they are making Wizard look too powerful. The fights aren't as fun when he pretty much has the monsters afraid to fight him now lol

It's like the beginning of series. Plus, it's a contrast compared with Fourze, where every monster was having an upper hand.
In a way I actually like it being like that for now. It creates the dynamic of Villains trying to work around Wizard instead of brute forcing it and thus having an "I'll beat him for sure" attitude, that gets tiresome.
Not only it creates a reversed situation, compared to most other shows where heroes have to work around more powerful foe, making an interesting view from the point of Phantoms, that for them it's Wizard who is a villain.
It als makes enemies more Genre Savvy. Instead of "I am unbeatable" we get "Well he murdered anyone else so far, so my chances are rather low as well"

They've given him some trouble and he's fighting Phoenix next episode. But it's not like when Tendo pretty curbed-stomped everyone for most of the series.

Sorry to get to this episode as late as I did. I have been really busy with personal matters in my life. But I saw it, so lets get my thoughts out of the way!

-Aww, don't feel too bad, guys. I know how you feel, with your broken hearts. My long time girlfriend broke up with me recently, and... Oh wait, this is a different thing. Nevermind!
--On second thought, it's too bad these heart broken guys aren't gates. That would would have made for an awesome twist! Using a con artist to play with men's feelings and unlock a bunch of gates at once...
-Ha! That's hilarious, hearing Haruto's voice change like that when he was accused of being no better than those other victims.
-I love that fight scene between the pieces of large tubing! That is awesome! It's like a mix between that famous James Bond shot from the gun barrel's POV, and that hallway gag where people run through a bunch of doorways
-But that Defend Ring is WAY more awesome! It just burned that right up! Way better than that Smell Ring.
-It's nice to see that Rinko's story will still bring us interesting things in future episodes. Nice to know that they haven't forgotten about their supporting characters. Hopefully Shunpei will go through some character growth/development as well.
-Oh, it's nice to see the con artist isn't such a bad lady after all. That's nice, I like that.
-I'll admit that the Land Style finisher was SUPER awesome, but using the Smell Ring on him just second before, even when the Phantom wasn't even using his super sense of smell anymore? That was harsh, Haruto. That was some kind of overkill. You're lucky you got the ring back after all that!
-And a nice, happy ending for all. ^u^
