Kougami doesn't care how something ends; as long as the start of it is phenomenal and SUBARASHI it may as well result in a billion kittens bursting into flames for all he cares. On the other hand, we have Maki, who couldn't care less if a thing STARTED with a billion kittens bursting into flames as long as the ending is suitably perfect

Nope, I get this vibe from both characters. I'm just wondering if it's intentional. A lot of the OOO characters feel like they have very childish movations to me, so I don't know if that's an "audience identification" thing or if Kobayashi is just struggling. OOO's characters are quite a bit simpler than I expect from her, usually.

I think they can make this work, though. If they delve deeper into both Kougami and Maki's backstories so we can see where they're coming from, when they want the world to be reborn in their own ways and all that stuff, it might turn out to be some very clever writing. We also don't know quite 'what' Kougami and Maki are, Kougami for example is still a bit of a mystery with his whole prophetic, over-the-top nature.

I don't think, say, Eiji's motivations as a character are necessarily all that childish though. He kinda reminds me of good ol' Godai; he just wants people to be safe and happy, an altruistic personality trait that I really like :anime:
