I was trying out Ryuki last night. The entire time I was thinking 'I wish I was watching OOO.'

I realize this is scary, considering OOO is my least favorite rider series, so far :O_O:

I don't see how you reached such an astounding conclusion. I think Ryuki is one of the last shows that actually had a heroic feel to it rather than simply following the motions of "good guys fighting bad guys".

Ryuki is the least of my favourites since the whole story only focusing more on other stories and least at shinji himself.

How did Shinji not get much focus? The whole show was about him clashing with just about everyone involved in the game.

and the whole plot just makes as if shinji does not deserve survive card (just look at how he gets the card!)

Kanzaki gave him the card to spur him on. It wasn't really about who "deserved" to get anything because the whole point of the Game was to satisfy Kanzaki's wishes. It wasn't like he orchestrated it so that the most heroic players got more prizes.

Eiji on the other hand is extremly similar but without most of the dumb-airheadedness that Shinji has. And for even though Shinji was meant to be the main character, I felt like felt more attached to Ren who was the secondary character and treated Shinji like the secondary rider instead. Eiji is also more cautious and witty than Shiji, though the guy did have a few moments.

How is Eiji not airheaded? Most of the show he's just being dragged on a leash by Ankh and others who are "in the know" without having much of a clue of what's going on himself. Even though he has a stronger motivation to do what does than Shinji's mere idealism and morals, Shinji came off as more of a hero to cheer for. Eiji feels like an imitation of Godai, Shinji and Ryotaro.

i think i get the whole idea of this kitamura...

he used to be a hikkimori before, so he might not have any friends. it's always hard for the hikkimori to mingling around or even find someone that have the same taste as them. so, when eiji appears into the scene and help him out, he felt relieved to finally get a friend. for him, if it's not becaue of eiji, he might won't get a friend at all.

because of that, he wanted to become his friend forever and try his best to eliminate anyone who is trying to 'separate' them. he even cared for him, as that's how some friends do.

then again, let's just pray that we don't get another slash pairing again. eiji/ankh and marvelous/don are already making it worse...

I've heard that Ryuki gets better once more riders show up, so I'm not too worried about liking it more whenever I do settle into finally watching it the whole way, though.

Ryuki figures itself out a bit more once Ohja shows up. This forces the main characters to start making more interesting decisions and gives the plot a much-needed swift kick in the rear.

Even at that, though, Ryuki's not a favorite of mine, either. The scripting in that one was pretty weak by Kobayashi standards.

The Ryuki script is weak but you have loads of fights since there are 10+ Riders in the show, some of them are really messy and everyone uses finishers. But then fights are what I like since that's the whole point of Kamen Rider. Things will get better once it enters Ep 19 when Ouja debuts, expect some random killing at the time you least expect it to happen.

It was quite simple.

I'll give it another shot, no worries. Didn't see nearly enough to judge the entire series. I wouldn't ever judge a series without seeing a significant percentage of it, or just based on what someone else says. Goseiger taught me that lesson quite handily :coolshades:

Was a bit weird not to be hooked almost right away like I was with Kuuga and Agito, though.
