Kamen Rider Gaim - Lock 09 "Operation: Catch Those Inves"

The episode was great visually too, and I think of all the characters, the dynamics of the Kureshima family are the most interesting aspect of the show thus far. It reminds me of the Sonozaki family, who made great antagonists during W's run so I'm really excited to see what kind of family drama Urobuchi can craft in his tenure with Gaim.

For some reason I imagined Micchi's identity being revealed through a similar way to Tatsuya's in Timeranger. He either gets his henshin deactivated as a result of being defeated by his brother or another Invess.

Good episode, a smartly written episode too. I also liked how the fights were directed, and how menacing Zangetsu was portrayed as. The fire and everything was great. Thank goodness for cgi there.

Fantastic episode. Great dynamic with all the characters all around.

Intriguing intro, great comedy, good action, good cinematography, insightful exposition and a suspenseful cliffhanger. All the things that make a great Kamen Rider episode.

I honestly loved that there was no new toy to sell in this episode. Mitchi formulating all these plans to catch the Bat Invess was great, and so was the whole teams participation. Comedy with the old lady and trying to lure in the Invess with fruit wasn't forced and actually was really hilarious. Great fight scene with a creative use of the giant fruit.

I remember watching a behind the scenes video of Gaim from a variety show with that girl in the Fruit shop who's an idol member and got a cameo after checking out the set, so that was cool to see on screen.

Everything with Takatora is extremely amazing. Zangetsu's henshin will be a glorious moment - even Toei knows that, since they show all this Kiwi stuff like no big deal and then tease Zangetsu's henshin. His talk with Sengoku was interesting, and they were obviously talking about the Genesis Driver.

9 episodes in, and this is becoming the Kamen Rider I've always wanted to see. Well, minus the fruits. But seriously, I haven't been this pleased with the writing in Rider for a long time. Gen even explains and connects everything! I love it.

Okay, okay. I'll admit that I was apprehensive of the fruit theme at first. However, they have managed to execute it so brilliantly. It's tied to the forest/plant theme they have going and the armors are simply gorgeous.

does anyone else not really

like kouta? I think he is kind of seems like a toned version of gentarou and he always bring the goofy humour to the show. He is kind of immature to me. I hope he matures

well, it is pretty immature to put protecting civilians over the obviously important things in life, like dance team rankings that are not based on actual dancing but instead is settled via pokemon battles. I love the Bulk and Skull duo btw acting all badass pushing Kouta and Micchy away. Uhh you guys know that those two ARE armored riders right?

Kouta...you so killed your buddy in episode 1.

RIP Yuuya.

Nice writing, and while some of the humor may seem a bit reaching (maybe), they also feel like they may have been results of executive meddling because Bandai/Toei wills it (maybe).

Man, I wish Bandou ends up being this show's Tousei Kaneshiro. This town needs to turn into Volcity 2.0 For all the disappointment that season gave me, the setting and atmosphere of Volcity was definitely one of them.

Well there's good uses and bad uses of the humor in Gaim. The Bravo episodes were the bad kind. But I'd say this episode it felt more right, like in episode two where you had Kouta goofing around with the belt.

Well, what is maturity, what does it really mean to 'grow up'? What does it mean to be mature, and what is required to achieve that status of 'maturity'? Also, what are you expecting him to mature and grow up into, exactly? And is that idea of 'being mature' is really correct?

Just so you know, I'm not expecting you to answer these question. Just want you to put some thought into them and reflect on them.

The humor in this episodes works like how the humor in episode 2 worked, and episodes 6 and 7 didn't. In this episode, the humor came out of Kouta very much being Kouta. Kind and well-meaning but very much a hapless schmoe who can't help but having trouble trying to do the right thing. The humor came out of him being very lacking in tact, composure, and any ability to handle kids and birds.

And hey, at least no silly or goofy moments during fights!

If the "Eat fruit. turn into Inves" theory comes true, and they actually make Yuuya the Inves Gaim killed, that would be amazing. I just assumed he was going to have been killed by Zangetsu or soemone else from Ygdrasil, and cause some conflict between Micchy and Mai (since Mai is the only one who seems to even remember that Yuuya is still missing)

Also, I'm glad the cast is finally realizing just how messed up their hobby is. I feel like "What are these Inves things and why are we playing Pokemon with them if they can rampage and kill us?" should have been the question they all asked before the series even started.

All in all, good episode. a bit less intense than the rest of the series has been so far, but I like that they hung a lampshade on it with Baron's "Being on top is kinda boring" speech.

The whole theme of Gaim is about growing up. When Kouta became Gaim for the first time he thought it was all a game, until Takatora gave him a reality check the hard way. Right now he's trying to find a part-time job, since he quit his last two. Which Mai called him an idiot.
