Kamen Rider Gaim - Lock 04 "Debut! The Grape Third Rider!"

(because it's racist).

Hah, I was wondering where the "racist" thing came from and had to look up some stuff. It's an obsolete word, but it's not a derogatory term so I don't see much problem in using it. I mean, apparently there is a baseball team called the Atlanta Braves.

Yes, but the US also has a not-actual-football team called 'the Washington Redskins', and has as its mascot a man dressed in a ridiculous faux version of a sacred cultural item for numerous Native American tribes, carrying a toy tomahawk. EDIT: I should note here that the man is carrying the toy tomahawk, not the culturally appropriative headgear. EDIT: By which I mean that the man is wearing the headgear and holding the tomahawk in his hand.

Just saying, I don't think 'some US sports team uses that word' is an argument against something being racist or appropriative.

(I will grant that, technically, the term 'brave' can be used to mean 'one possessing bravery', in the same way we use the term 'worthy' to mean 'one who possesses worthiness', but since nobody ever uses it in that way, and hasn't for decades, I'd call that a fairly thin argument if someone tried to make it.)

I've never seen it translated as "Brave", personally. "Sanada Ten Braves" was "Sanada Juuyuushi". I can't recall any show that used "Brave" as the English word for "Yuusha". "Densetsu no Yuusha Densetsu" was "Legend of the Legendary Heroes".

I only said that in the assumption that the team uses the word, and no big beef is made about it seeing that they had been and still using it. It's an assumption hence it could be wrong. Is it? Also, the team apparently got the name from that origin because of the meaning.

So a "brave" is an old word that refers to warriors of Native America. It simply used to mean that, and it means warrior. I don't see anything that could be derogatory or offensive. I'm not saying everyone should use it but I don't see why it shouldn't be used.

Note that this is no longer a discussion about translation of "yuusha", but about the word "brave".

A brave at least sounds better than a worthy.

I can't recall any show that used "Brave" as the English word for "Yuusha".

"Yuusha-Oh GaoGaiGar" was "King of Braves GaoGaiGar". Also, the entire Brave series.

But even the ambiguous uses of english and so, using the word Brave in regards to Bravery and using "Yusha" for being brave as well just seems redundant even for Japan. Anyways as I said, this should be a topic for a Kyoryuger thread and not in the Gaim thread.

I'm totally digging Zangetsu's fighting style with the shield and all. I wonder if we'll ever see a day again where the main rider depends just on his punch and kicks, like Meteor, only without the stupid beyblade upgrade. But at the very least they are doing great with the weapons and all, still waiting for an awesome sword fight scene to occur- oh wait, Ryugen doesn't have a gunblade(Do we have a name for their secondary sword?) does he?

STRAWBERRIES ARMS! Already look better than Pineapple Arms. I still can't take Baron seriously though. I mean, the idea is cool and it's there, but I can't really pinpoint why I'm not warming up to it. But, it'll be very interesting to see SIC versions of the Gaim series riders.

Awesome episode, quite a nice build up to Ryugen, especially his speech before the henshin. I actually didn't expect Micchy to be Ryugen. Given his conversation with Sid I'm not entirely sure how to feel about him though. So much potential angst-antagonist rider material there.

I like Kaito, the show's doing great displaying that he still has a long way to go before he becomes a hero, and I am still hoping that one of these episodes he'll deny the armored rider title and give a rider speech Stronger style. Something that Ryuki could had done.

The pacing is awesome so far in, but I wonder are we still feeling the effects of Wizard's stall game.

The swordgun used by Gaim and Zangetsu is called the Musou Saber iirc.

Though one thing I will say is, I kinda wish they gave Baron a claymore and not the lance, which already feels odd when he's the KNÃGHT ÖF SPËÄR. The fighting he's done just look like it would benefit from being a big sword, which at the same time would make it different from the Musou Saber and even Gaim's personal sword.

Hm, totally agree on that. I wonder why did they even bother with "knight of spear" when he's using a lance like weapon in the first place, and he's still using it like a long sword. Could it be because the toy was already using "knight of spear" before anything was decided on? But I like how they kept making him walk with a banana on his head twice in a roll. The rest just stands there for their fruit to change.

My friend cracked a joke about Baron that I couldn't help but laugh though, so he's a rider fan but has not yet watched Gaim. The conversation when a bit like this

Me: So you have this other rider, Kamen Rider Baron, who's a banana rider. Literally. He transform by having a banana drop onto his head-"
friend: "It's kamen rider dickhead!"

So this means that Baron and Ryugen would not be getting Musou Sabers?
