Kamen Rider Gaim - Lock 01 "Transform! An Orange From The Sky!?"

We know that she'll probably die close to the end and come back to life either in the very last episode or in a crossover movie.

Pretty good episode. Not better than Wizard's first, but superior to Fourze's first. I could do without the Beyblade battle though. Oh, and right now, I'm more interested in knowing about the corporation than I am with the riders.

The opening was catchy as ****, also the Henshin music, those shogan chants when he first realized how to transform were God Tier. I'm actually more into the music this season then anything else. I do wish they'd relent on the exposition so that there could be more action throughout the episode. Dig that this rider dual wields Japanese sword based weapons. Dig the suit design, didn't dig the color on the monster, didn't like all gray on Faiz, don't care for it here. Don't know what to make of anything else, since it's so early. There were four main riders in the adverts, I hope their first outings are better then Gaims was. That fight was a little too goofy for my taste.

You know I just noticed something.

Kota's sister was actually Sailor Mercury from PGSM. The resemblance is damn precise that it can't be false.

First Sailor Moon's multiple appearances in the Rider franchise (Sawai Miyuu guest starring the Kamen Rider W's portion of the Decade/W Movie Taisen, and Sawai Miyuu's latest appearance in Kamen Rider Wizard's final episodes), now we have Sailor Mercury entering the Rider franchise.

Well the fight was filled with Kota slowly learning what the hell he was doing, so it's obvious he'd be fumbling around.

Obviously, but other rider series did the fumbling better if that makes any sense. Actually I think I didn't like it not because he was fumbling with so much, he had to use swords, drop one to figure out he had another, figure out that one was also a gun, figure out that he could combine them and then he did his finisher with some help from the mysterious woman. It's not that he was fumbling, it was that he fumbled into all of his abilities in such a convenient way that it took me out of the fight for a few seconds. OOOs and Fourze did it better, partially because they had someone explain what and how to use the weapons, I feel like that makes more sense. I'm not taking a dig at the show or anything, that scene was just too goofy for my taste. It's not a bad scene and I understand it might have been necessary given that there was no one to help him, but it was still really freaking goofy.

Okay I have to say it; IS ANYONE ELSE TIRED OF THE MAIN RIDERS HAVING DEAD PARENTS!? I mean come on, this this is like the eighth rider of the heisei erato have their parents dead prior to the series (SPOILERS Kuuga, Blade, Kabuto, Den-o, Kiva (I think) Decade, Fourze, Wizard SPOILERS).

I did like the rest of the episode, it gave me a very Kuuga, Ryuki, and 555 Vibe, and I loved all them! I only have a few minor nit picks. Tough I do love the scene with girl in a white dress (She looks so beautiful! (No seriously I never say hot damn with most girls on toku (not sure why) But I said Hot dam here!)) Her speech made me think she will be kind of a mix of Shiro Kanzaki (Ryuki), and Hiyori Kusakabe (Kabuto), and possibly a not annoying SMART Lady (555).

Kiva's mom was alive in the series.

Okay, I know the smart money is on blonde Mai being from the future where the Sengoku War happened, but does anyone else think that Yuya might have been transformed into the blonde Mai due to eating one of those fruits? Anyone?....

Huh, guess nobody but me thinks that.

Anyway, damn fine start. Really interested in seeing where all this interdimensional invasion/dance group rivalry/samurai fruit salad takes us this year.

Also, to follow Ryuga_Knight's question: is it just a requirement for superheroes on both sides of the Pacific to have dead parents?

Kiva's mom was alive in the series.

Did he know that though? I'm having trouble remembering. We are basically led to believe at the beginning that he is an orphan if I remember correctly. His father is dead and his mother is not in the picture.

I don't really mind the Orphan backstory. I think it would be nice to see a story where the hero has real relationships with both his parents though, that would be nice. Also, was there anything that really said Eiji's parents were dead? Things I'm looking at say he was travelling with his grandfather, which would make it seem they were dead, but I don't remember any mention of them.
