Kamen Rider Gaim - Lock 01 "Transform! An Orange From The Sky!?"

Even if he weren't sitting in back rooms making deals with the creepy spiv ... Why was he supposedly Team Gaim's leader yet doesn't perform with the team, doesn't do anything else with the team, and for all intents and purposes lets Mai run it? Isn't that suspicious enough?

When Team Baron came to pick a fight, Mitsuzane said to call Yuuya, but Mai cut him off, saying "I'm more than enough for these pricks."

Afterwards, Yuuya told her that she should've waited for him to come if there's trouble, but she said she didn't want to pester him because he's busy with his own stuff.

So I assume Yuuya's the team leader, but he can't run it all the time because he had other obligations, I'm guessing something like a job. So obviously he can't spend all day dancing in the streets.

DAMN STRAIGHT SHE IS! :castlerock: I don't want to be too optimistic about Mai because of the Mysterious MacGuffin Girl in White (I am fed up with female characters being used as plot devices) but so far, I like her a lot

That makes sense, Yuuya seems like he's supposed to be the oldest of the team and since Kota is supposed to be 20 that places Yuuya as at least 22-23. I guess in context of the story Baron was also at work (he's supposed to have had this dreadful impoverished upbringing and probably works at three different jobs for twelve hours a day or something?) although for the purposes of the show he had to remain ~mysterious~ by not being there?

I'm not sure how Kamen Rider, fruits, dancing, and lockseed have to do with each other exactly, but even with just the raw video this new series seems very promising. The opening sequence of a grand battle that seems to come straight out of an Akira Kurosawa samurai movie is quite epic, and if that is what we have in store in the future then I'd like to see more of it. I do wonder if Mai and that mysterious girl in white (who is a dead ringer for her) are related, and maybe that Shroud girl is actually Mai from another dimension or who Mai will become. It appears that she knows Kota and wants to help him, and perhaps she will be his ally when he's in danger.

Already anticipating second episode to see what the deal is with the Pine arm upgrade.

Btw, judging from the opening, it seems like they like to use reflection a lot, and a possible foreshadowing of a dark Gaim with Yuuya displaying two personalities, and the (good) Kota appears to have been fenced inside, even disintegrating. Lots of intriguing possibilities with this series.

I think the reason she appears before Kouta is because he used the driver and transformed, warning him that he has "picked" a destiny(I'm not sure about this line), and that there's no going back. If I may reference an earlier show, it's like Kanzaki Shiro appearing before the Riders in Ryuki.

I'm going to take a stab and suggest that Baron do not approve of his lackeys playing cheats, so they went and did it behind his back. As far as he is concerned, the reason his team is at the top because they're the strongest.

Mai definitely left a good first impression in this episode. But the thing is, she is the show's female lead, and because of that, I'm pretty certain that she won't be directly involved in the monster fighting part of the show. So I think it's falls to the writer to make her participate in the story and be an important part of the narrative, while being in that character type. I think Urobuchi did a good job of it in Gargantia(though in that show, Amy is the most important part in humanizing Ledo, which is the story's central plot), so I'm hopeful that he can pull it off with Mai.

The girl in white was taken aback when Kouta said that he wanted to protect her. I think that Gaim was her protector/samurai or a friend/lover in the past, and because of that Gaim allied himself with some sort of evil. Or Gaim was forced to fight a terribly violent war that caused a lot of damage just to protect her.

I don't think that part was meant to show a good or bad side of Kouta. The way I interpreted that scene in the opening is that the young immature Kouta (the one that used to dance for Team Gaim) disintegrated and now there is this new Kouta that wants to become an adult and fight that lives.

That is completed by the part where he desperately screams over the fence showing his younger, immature self, wanting to break free.
