Kamen Rider Gaim Ep 24 - "The New Formidable Overlords"

And this airs right after that other topic...

I really wasn't fond of the scene of Kouta testing lockseeds in the beginning. This episode started from Baron's battle with the overlord (basically ignoring last week's crossover) but, after the opening, it shows a Kouta who apparently is completely recovered and even light hearted "just" after the big revelation regarding Yuuya? Even his personality in the crossover was more appropriate than that.

Oh, well, I'll go by the official site and consider the crossover part of the story, giving some breathing room for this, but that scene still really annoyed me.

The dude is trying to move forward and I really don't feel like Kouta would be the type to dwell especially after most expected him to give up, Kureshima brothers and all.

Looks like Jinba Energy Peach is the weakest of the Jinba Energy Arms especially how he easily get knocked out of it and get beaten up a lot. I suppose it's the whole Kuuga's Pegasus Form parallelism. Funny how he tries to figure out the form's powers before hearing the ENTIRE city and then seeing Micchy from afar and yelling to him with Micchy just looking around, confused.

lol Kouta just blitz through Sid with Jinba Cherry.

Sagara's definitely giving off that vibe he's an Overlord Invess considering he's communicating with them in their language.

The first part with Mai and Micchy with, what, falling cherry blossoms? actually feels so surreal. I need subs but god, it really feels like Micchy is losing his grip and it's awesome.

Good to know that Peach Energy can have its sensory input overloaded to the point where the user can't withstand the strain of using it. Kouta sorta fooled around with it and was able to hear a bunch of things, something Godai couldn't do the first time, so I'm glad that there still is a drawback to using Peach Energy.

The Overlord - Go Grongi comparisons are definitely there. Especially since a lot of the higher ones had adapted more to the Linto culture within the show as opposed to some of the lower class who went straight into the Gegeru.

And man, the Serpent comparisons with Sagara! Spot on! I was surprised that Urobuchi let us know that Sagara is an Overlord himself so quickly. I thought it'd be dragged on a bit longer, though I guess that just means there is more in store for us. It'd be really interesting to see Ryouma and co. try to apprehend them or whatever and have Sagara give them an ass kicking.

The Green Overlord actually learned a bit of Japanese, and his raw attempt at it definitely comes off as creepy. His design is also sick as hell. Can't remember a bird/dragon themed monster that cool as of late (Maybe besides Ankh's Greeed form)

Mitchi and Kaito are nuts, Takatora is oblivious, and another great episode. The next ep has Jounouchi but still looks to talk a bit more about the Overlords and whatnot so excited once again!

Did the site say that the crossover was part of series continuity?

Kouta had plenty of reaction to Yuuya in the last two episodes and I sort of get the impression he's blocking it out for the sake of being able to carry on? Like at one point Micchi deliberately brings up Yuuya and almost instantly Kouta just says he won't let anything like that happen again?

The description of the special's events is included in the "story" section of Gaim's site, between episodes 23 and 24. But, this episode itself didn't acknowledge anything from that and the pre-opening scene with Kaito after the recap of the last standard episode starts right after 23's ending.

Quite frankly, it's up to your own discretion to determine whether the thing is canon or not and where you would fit into the frame of things between 23 and 24. I - let's be blunt here - don't give a rat's arse about it. It's not canon to me, it doesn't even exist in my opinion, and it's tiresome to see it constantly argued about ad nauseum.

I couldn't help but notice the little dissonance between the Kouta on the rooftop at the beginning and the heavy revelations of the preceding episodes either. While it is good to see a bit of that upbeat Kouta messing around with his toys again, unless some time has passed since the revelation and his giving Yggdrasil stockholders a punch to the groin, it feels too abrupt and inorganic. He has reasons for hope and higher spirits indeed, but it's a jarring little dissonance nonetheless.

Disappointed with Sid to be honest, not that I was expecting much of a proper showdown anymore given Kouta's new power levels, but I was expecting something more potent from that ominous S Lockseed. Earlier in the show when the Genesis imagery was being discussed, I was picturing Sid - "tempting" people in a way by being a dealer - being the serpent-like figure and that S meaning something more than an initial in his name. Well, guess not, and his S Lockseed just seems to be a remote device for watermelons, so much for that. Wouldn't that sort of equipment make more sense to be in Takatora's or Ryoma's possession?

Very positive impressions of the Overlord Inves thus far. I'm just wondering if Demushu is speaking some kind of distorted Engrish because I swear he said something to Kouta that sounded like "you shall die"! I'll probably say no, because it's more likely a universal Overlord Inves tongue.

The Overlords said that they've been in Helheim for so long they're bored and want a 'toy'. And told Kouta to be a better 'toy' next time.

I guess they just want some sort of sparring partner to kill time.

So yeah don't think Kouta will get any progress unless he starts using Kachidoki and show them 'power'.

Once Baron gets Lemon Energy, then they probably will have a proper discussion with the Overlords

I really don't see it. It's not like after Hase's death and we see him playing with the lemon lockseed. That was jarring. Here he genuinely has reasons to be happy and not go full despair.

There's a big difference between "not go full despair" and giving one of those giant smiles for the new toy that we hadn't seen since the early episodes though.

And, really, with the Hase thing, that was only after he was captured and managed to escape from Yggdrazil, two episodes later. Here, if we ignore the crossover, it's the very next scene featuring Kouta, right after he blows up the Yggdrazil ring.

Also, rewatch the scene where he attempted to use Energy Lemon. It was a light hearted scene, but there was no "big smile" moment like here.
