Kamen Rider Gaim Ep 24 - "The New Formidable Overlords"

-Mai & Kouta: Eh... There have been hintings, but I think this is more so one-sided in Mai's case. There have been a few moments that hinted at the possibility, particularly Mai's concern for him and all. Though, I don't think it's really been played up enough to seriously consider it at the moment.
I think Mai/Kouta is more in Micchy's head. She shows the slightest bit of concern for a friend and he starts jumping to conclusions about having a rival for her affections. I was wondering if this imaginary love triangle he has in his head will be what finally breaks him from Kouta?

...logically if Kouta is that much of a public enemy #1 for Yggdrasil, what exactly is stopping them from holding his sister captive for real this time, or just assassinating him without ever giving him a chance to put his belt on?

And well, I know Ryoma seems to be hyper-reliant on having empirical data. But he's seen what Kachidoki has managed to do in its initial debut, meaning it's nothing to joke about, so three watermelons or not, wouldn't it be better for the three of them to gang up on Kouta in the forest - rather than just send one guy after him who has consistently been losing lately?

I know these are trivial nitpicks in an otherwise great episode, but despite all the serious talk of stopping Kouta in his tracks before he screws up everything, they're halfhearted and quite nonchalant about him if actions speak words.

And Sid makes a better Solid Snake than Snake himself. Sure, all that was missing was a cardboard box, but he managed to stroll right up to Kouta, aim his loud, rattling shortbow at him and shoot at him without even Jimber Peach's senses sensing him.

I don't think Takatora would go for that. Yes, he's basically a puppet, but he likes to have an illusion of control, and the other Yggdrasil people are giving him that for now.

That scene at the beginning was definitely... interesting to say the least, what with how romantic Micchy's perspective of his time with Mai is. Those cherry blossoms :P.

And then we get a scene showing his further descent into an outright villain, and how he's little different than Kaito. As much as Kaito will do anything for "power," Micchy is obsessed with obtaining "influence" and having control over others. He doesn't really give much care as to the feelings or individuality of those around him, only that they follow his directions and keep him content. It's kinda sad to see how much faith Kouta still has in him :disappoin.

I just loved all those Pegasus shout-outs with Jimber Peach, from its ability to some of its scenes in this episode. With that scene from the first episode, the Overlords, and the Jimber Forms being more like Kuuga's forms than Wizards ever were, it really looks like Urobuchi is surprisingly a bigger fan of Kuuga than I would've expected :).

Ryoma and co. have to be extremely discreet about their business, because they can't let Takatora find out the truth about their real goals or the Overlords. Sure, they don't take him seriously or give him any respect as a leader, but they still have to maintain the illusion that there's nothing going on behind his back that he has to worry about. Because if he gets wind of what their up to... they'll have Zangetsu to worry about, and likely Yggdrasil's higher ups :169:.

Still getting the tar kicked out of you, huh Kaito? I'm starting to think Baron is becoming a parody of Second Riders who are sometimes only around to get beat up while the Main Rider keeps getting stronger. I know Baron's getting an Energy Upgrade, but still .

I wonder who will ultimatley prove Baron's meaning of strength wrong, or teach him a better way? Will it be Kouta, or Mai :eyebrow:?

On paper, the S Lock Seed is actually pretty useful, and had it been used during the first arc it probably would have been pretty impressive. Too bad Kachidoki is just a really, really, powerful upgrade. I thought the sequence of Gaim in Kachidoki taking down all the Watermelon drones was pretty awesome, as was seeing Gaim beat Sigurd with Jimber Cherry. I also found "Rise your Flag" to be a pretty nice insert song .

The talk with the Overlords, with the translations, cements that Sagara isn't really human, and could possibly be the blue Overlord. And then you have the biblical symbolism with the serpent... if we're heading into an Adam and Eve scenario, with blonde Mai as Eve and the one chosen by Helheim as Adam, then maybe the reason blonde Mai was so adamant about getting Kouta uninvolved is because something bad happens to "Adam" by being chosen?

Gaim's first meeting with the Overlords... certainly didn't end well for him. It seems like the Overlords, or at least Redue, are starting to view the Riders as a challenge that can finally end their boredom since nothing else happens in Helheim. The only chance Kouta has to get them to actually listen to him, or to force them to stop Helheim, is probably by beating them. Though I wonder if only Kachidoki stands a chance at legitimately beating an Overlord?

It looks like we're finally going to get the Gridon/Bravo episode people have been waiting for .

Gaim 24:

- Micchi's definitely a better version of Kusaka. He can portray his inner psycho without being over-the-top and unsympathetic.

- Kouta's a bit too upbeat after the Yuuya revelation. Not counting the crossover, it's only been on episode.

- If we can't have more riding scenes. I like this economical way of showing the bikes: implying their use and having them in the background. Other shows ought to have done this if they weren't going to have the Riders actually ride around.

- Why not just ride to Helheim as Jinber Peach? Pointless toy ad moment there.

Micchy after talking with Mai: "Kouta's my friend, too. I don't want to see him suffer."

Yeah, right. We all believe you...*Snickering*
