Kamen Rider Gaim Ep 23 - "Now Let's Go! Kachidoki Arms!"

Micchi is honestly more interested in controlling Kouta and Mai. If he really cared he would have told them everything instead of hiding stuff from them. He doesn't treat them as equals, he treats them more like pets.

Because telling them that he's related to Yggdrasil and that Kouta killed Yuuya is so much better.

But there's no way that Ryoma's world would be something that would bring happiness to Mai. It's not about keeping people in safe ignorance, if what he talked with Kaito, about welcoming Helheim, is his actual goal. Michy right now believes that Yggdrazil's goals are the best way to keep his "happiness", and Yggdrazil's methods, attempting to keep people in ignorance, actually line up with the way he treats his friends too. That's why he was so angry at Kouta challenging Yggdrazil here in the first place, even though he wasn't directly hurting that "happiness".

The direction that I see Micchy's character going is him becoming completely devoted to Yggdrazil's goals, to the point that he loses sight of his original aim, is rejected by his friends, and turns against them. If he betrays Takatora, I think it'll be because at some point he'll end up even more tied to Yggdrazil's goals than his brother.

I don't think Micchy sides with Ryouma; in fact, as a very skilled liar, he's able to fool both friends and enemies: he's the only one who pretty much knows how to deal with all sides.
From what I've gathered, Micchy was furious against Kouta because he didn't listen to him, but at that time, he didn't have the info Kouta received from DJ Sagara. However, it will be interesting how he's gonna react when Kouta is gonna tell him about the Overlord Invess stuff, especially since he already suspects something fishy with Kaito and Ryouma.
I don't really know about Mai; she's pretty much a side character of the show, ad I doubt she'll be involved in a love conundrum, since Urobuchi doesn't seem to be interested in that.

I don't think Micchi is even interested in Mai's happiness. That bunker incident clearly didn't make Mai feel all too well. I think he's just interested in his own happiness and is using Mai's happiness as an excuse to justify himself.

He wants to continue dancing with his friends.
He wants to be happy with his friends.
He wants to be with Mai.
It's really all about what he wants.

He says he wants Mai to be happy, and he may well believe that's true. What he actually wants is for her to fall for him and he thinks that, if he does everything he can to protect her hope and keep the truth from her, she will eventually understand what he's done for her and will fall in love with him. (Were she to fall for Kouta or Kaito or whoever else would he go "that's OK, I want her to be happy"? No!) It's becoming more apparent how obsessed he is with her, and yet I do think he honestly believes he wants her to be happy and is just doing his best to protect her. Which is scary.

So is it safe to say Micchi is a younger, subtler and less extreme version of Kusaka?

At this point, I think it's pretty clear that Micchy has nobody's best interests at heart - possibly not even his own, in the long term.

He wants Mai, but he doesn't really care whether she's happy or not, and he clearly doesn't respect her or even really understand her - he does things she knows she doesn't like to impress her (like becoming a Rider in the first place); will go over her head and use her happiness as a weapon to force Kouta into line, even though he must know that she'd hate that if she knew; and he'll cheerfully escort her and the other members of Team Gaim down to a shelter under false pretenses - but won't tell them so that they can save their families.

He seems to simultaneously want Kouta's friendship while also absolutely hating the fact that Kouta is stronger (physically, mentally and emotionally) than him and can't be controlled. It's almost as if he doesn't want to be friends with Kouta, he just wants to control him and have his affection, which is - more or less what he wants with Mai, as well. His constant attempts to manipulate Kouta, absolute rage at Kouta not falling in line, seems to pretty much be what would happen to Mai if she reciprocated his interest.

Thing is, I feel like you could replace Mai with any charismatic, attractive young woman about his age, and Kouta with any charismatic, attractive young man, and Micchy's behaviour would be exactly the same.

He wants to be able to control Ryouma, Sid and Yoko, too, and he doesn't seem to have realised that he's small fry compared to them. They are much better manipulators than him, and they all know it, and he's the only one who doesn't get that. He wants his brother's respect, but he also wants to be able to work against him behind his back.

And ultimately, he's not thinking in the long term: The impending apocalypse seems to almost be a side issue for him. He's not interested in Yggdrassil's ideals - nothing he does has 'save the world' as its main goal, it's always to advance these manipulative, parasitic relationships he has with people. He's as blinkered and short-sighted as he is treacherous.

... I have a lot of Micchy-related thoughts, okay.

Dude, stay out of my mind; I was just thinking the same thing when I watched 23 earlier today. >_<

At least this time it's a more grounded characterization and not over-the-top "so bad it's good" psycho. It's too bad for Kusaka, really. He still wouldn't have been a "goody-good" person, but he had stuff going for him as a character.

Wow...

Well the new Triumphant Arms has to be the most badass mid-season upgrade ever, though that may just be because I adore that kind of samurai asthetic (especially with the flags on the back! - although I think Jabi's actress looks more natural fighting with flags than Takaiwa does). I think his henshin before he attacks Yggdrasil was such a "punch the air" moment too!

Also loved the little details, such as Kaito dropping off that etched plate that looks like the pioneer plaque and the alien language of the Overlords. Plus the ever-increasing splintering of the factions as everyone pursues their own goals with no second thoughts about double-crossing each other.

Gaim in a lot of ways to me feels like it took a lot of the unique elements of Ryuki, Faiz, and Blade, mixed them together, and just did a far better job with them. And without feeling like an Agito clone! Makes me so happy since those were three shows I really wanted to love a lot, but was severely disappointed.

Ryuki:
-Riders vs Riders plots
-Mirror World and Monsters = Helheim Forest and Inves

Faiz:
-The setting being a city that's taken over by the evil organization (Smart Brain/Yggdrasil), with a group of kids trying to fight back against them with what little they've got.
-Lucky Clover = Genesis Riders
-Riotroopers = Kurokage Troopers
-Micchy = Kusaka

Blade:
-The multiple different views that people have towards the organization (BOARD/Yggdrasil) and how they think they affect society (whether in a good way or a bad way). Basically, different ideals clashing. Particularly Kenzaki vs Tachibana = Kouta vs Micchy
-The organization has scientists that experiment on the Rider technology and the show's monster concepts (Undead/Inves).
Isaka (Peacock Undead), Tennouji, and Hirose = Ryouma Sengoku
-The Trial experiments (mix of Rider technology and Undead) = The Beat Riders (Rider technology and Inves)

So, possibility of Micchy being the final boss or second-to-last boss of the series?

I imagine he'd have a sort-of sympathetic death with Kouta saying "I forgive you" or something like that, with Micchy thanking him or something similar with his last breath. That is if he does die.

If he doesn't die, I still think Kouta will be the better person and forgive him.
