Kamen Rider Drive - News/Rumours Thread 1

Also, the weapons are FUNKY. Like, I know the Wizarswordgun was weird, but these? I don't think I've ever seen rider weapons so unimaginative and un weaponlike.(No, Gaim weapons are cool. Even Donkachi is a nice little mallet.) I mean, I had to double take to even realize the sword was a sword.

They aren't that bad, imo. Not the best either, but I can tell they're really pushing the car gimmick lol. I did kinda hope he had a sword weapon, so I like this, but I kinda wanted to look cooler like Accel's sword haha but I'm sure they will look better as full sized show props.

And I actually don't mind If the series doesn't have alot of Riders either, it would be a nice break from the large cast of Riders we have with Gaim, and giving focus to just 1, 2 or 3
Besides if the violet shaded Rider is a villain type it furthers the homage to Black RX because of Shadowmoon and continues the tradition(well more of a trope) of the Secondary Rider clashing or being antagonistic towards the Main Rider. And Gaim originally revealed 5 Riders and then put empahsis on the 4, it didn't indicate it would only be those 5, and now we have 11 series canon Riders.

With all of these allusions to Black RX-Trideron, Belt/Brace henshin device, possible villain type Rider, I hope the series has the same serious dark tone(not completely the same because how KR has evolved) , but about the same level of Gaim or a bit more

Hm... could the producer of this show be Tsukada? Mashin Chaser seems to be basically an evil or rival Rider, but doesn't have the Rider name, and his series seemed to be the only ones worried about who deserved the Rider title (generally avoiding evil Riders, and, even when we got some, they were called out by the characters as not being true Riders).

I don't think Bandai would call this second character "Mashin Chaser" rather than just Kamen Rider Whatever without the show's staff pushing for it.

"a nice break" as if Gaim weren't the first series in five years to have more than two Riders as main characters

So it appears Drive will become Type Fruit and Gaim will become Drive Arms in the next Movie War. That's interesting because that means Gaim has used the Arms of the previous Rider (Wizard), the first Rider (#1), and now his successor.

Don't be a smart ass, as much as I love Gaim and claim it to be my favorite series so far, I just don't think consecutively they should feature shows with alot of Riders, I feel it's best used as an occasional Kamen Rider trope, as writers can focus their development with very few Riders. Heck in the Showa era, there was only 1 Rider at all most of the time.... :redface2:

I'm not being "a smart ass." You make Gaim sound like the rule rather than the exception. And a smaller cast does not equal better characters - look at Wizard for example. Even if Toei gave us a new show with only one Rider, it wouldn't be written like a Showa-era series.

Multiple Riders doesn't hurt the main Rider itself, it's generally some of the extra Riders that end up suffering and underdeveloped. Still, even in shows with two Riders we often end up with the second Rider removed from important moments, like Accel's utter uselessness in the Utopia arc and final episode, or Birth being basically just a rescue worker in OOO's final episode.

Heck in the Showa era, there was only 1 Rider at all most of the time....

Technically, there's only three Showa series with only one Rider throughout (Amazon, Super-1, Black - and the last one is questionable due to some official material labeling Shadowmoon a Rider, although it isn't consistent), but you're right if you count individual episodes. You'd get a much larger number of episodes where only one Rider appears than episodes with multiple Riders.

You know, I really like the fandoms reception of everything so far, all positive and excitement, Bandai did a really good job on the belt/brace and toy gimmick this year, the Showa era, and RX allusions are great, let's hope the suits are good continue this excitement, the way the fandom acted with Gaim's announcement, yeeoossh

At least this part of nostalgia looks nice.

I'm not saying that a smaller casts automatically means a good show and characters, I'm sorry if I implied that. Any show can be bad or good regardless of the cast size, motif, or any superficial features, because it ultimately comes down to the writing. I loved Wizard's design,powers/weapons, the whole magic/wizardry theme and theme song, but the show and characters were very underwhelming and I didn't get past 14 episodes. Gaim, which I've stated was my favorite, could have been the horrible silly fruit samurai show that the fandom expected(though I was excited for Gaim), but Urobutchi proved them wrong and gave us one of the best in the franchise, imo.

Let me clarify what I mean, I LOVE that Gaim has alot of Riders, I love that Urobutchi used the Rider war theme for the first half or so, but I was just saying I PERSONALLY don't think having alot of Riders should be a consecutive concept after just having one, in response to someone who initially complained Drive would have very few Riders.

I wasn't trying to insult you, I just thought it a little strange considering that we rarely get shows with a cast as large as Gaim's (and Toei's been sticking to the two-Rider formula for the last five years following on from the success of Den-O/Decade/W)
