Kamen Rider Drive - News/Rumours Thread 1

Another detective Rider show huh, solving mystery and stopping crime. So definitely going back to the 2-parter episode arc formula again like W. Thank you Gaim for changing things up the past year.

Man, I honestly wish the tire was in the place of his belt, and have two braces as a henshin device. I know that it would ruin the tradition of kamen rider not having a belt as a main form henshin, but the idea of the tire as a belt would make his design so much more appealing to me, AND still have the function of the wheel. Or maybe as a compromise have the wheel parallel to the belt on the chest instead. Don't get me wrong, I love the design, especially the helmet, but the wheel gives me that annoying feeling of "someone tall sitting in front of you at an event."

They never changed it production wise. If you look at the directorial credits for Gaim, each director were doing them in two episode chunks.

Here's hoping we get Sanjo's writing from W and Xros Wars, not Fourze and Kyoryuger. Also, I'm sure it's been said, but with Sanjo at the helm of the story, I expect it to be much more light hearted for the most part.

So, let me get this straight.

Before Gaim came around, W was easily the most well-regarded of the modern Kamen Rider series. It's at the top of almost everyone's "best of" lists.

But when Riku Sanjo--the primary creative engine behind W's story--is announced as the writer for Drive, 90% of us react with scorn and cynicism. And suddenly the show we couldn't stop recommending just yesterday has all these caveats that make it bad, and we just know Drive is gonna be terrible.

We are a funny fandom.

Somehow it felt like Den-O when i saw the clip, therefore it left a childish Impression to me.. I really hope, someday, there may appear a Season as dark as the earlier hesei seasons such as Faiz oder Ryuki. For now, Gaim gave me hope, this clip clearly destroys it. Anyway, i need a closer look, i can't judge it for now

Riku Sanjo wasn't the sole writer and creator on W. In fact far from it, W's creation owes more to Hideaki Tsukada the producer and there were multiple writers for W including long time Tsukada stalwarts Naruhisa Arakawa and Keichi Hasegawa not to mention incredible amounts of story input from Tsukada himself. However Sanjo by himself has turned out some real duds including most of his episodes on Fourze, Digimon Young Hunters and the second half of Kyoryuger. Much like Inoue after Hibiki/Kiva/Kabuto/Decade, the fandom has really had to re-evaluate his work after his multiples duds..

Yeah his work on Fourze was pretty bad. He just fell back on his anime tendencies when writing Gentaro and Yuuki. For all we know the entire Gemini Arc of Fourze was a way to give reason or some semblance of logic to Yuuki's outrageous behavior during certain parts season. (Like during the Aquarius Arc)

I'm not against Sanjo writing the series. He's a capable writer, but he does have his tendencies just like any other writer (hell the premise of Drive's protagonist hearkens back to Shotaro) and as time goes on most of us have reevaluated his work and are aware that he isn't some writer that can do no wrong.

I was pulling for Hasegawa to handle the series (Seriously, when can the man get his own rider series?) but I'm not dismayed at all. The two-episode format isn't necessarily bad. Kuuga and Agito both did the same thing. It's all about making those two-episode arcs meaningful and worthwhile episodes while continuously moving the overarching story forward.

Clip seems alright, but these are hardly indicative of how the entire series will turn out. I'm getting some OOO vibes though.

Diminish Sanjo's contribution to W all you want, it doesn't change the fact that he was the head writer and the man in charge of series composition. That means all of the story turns were primarily generated by him and the producer.

Look, I've never seen W, and I think Kyoryuger has high points and low points. So I don't really have a positive or negative feeling about Sanjo. I'm just pointing out an amusing observation: that this fandom will turn on a well-respected creator at the drop of a hat.
