Kamen Rider Drive - News/Rumours Thread 1

I just want to know how much they learned from Gaim's writing direction. ToQ has taught me I can come to love almost any suit once I see it in motion enough, but if we go back to the formulas that plagued Wizard, I don't know man. The fact we're already back to one real Rider so far is already a tad worrying, unless this Machine Chaser guy ends up one.

I'd rather they not follow Gaim's direction. These past 10 episodes or so have been the slowest progress in Kamen Rider I've ever seen. Just piled up drama and more drama with zero resolution whatsover.

And the lingering feeeling that in the end, the ending will be crap.

Aren't you just saying that due to all the breaks we've had in this period? It did slow down compared to what Gaim was before, but what Gaim was before was faster than any other Rider series. I mean, right now they're invading the Yggdrazil Tower taken over by the Overlords. 10 episodes ago the Overlords hadn't even taken over the tower yet.

Versus how some shows just don't have their shows progress at all except during two part arcs that are decided to be "plot important" almost at random?

This has probably been the best paced Rider series in years.

I think this is probably a factor. We had the Kikaider episode forced in, Gaim's movie episode forced in, then a week with nothing at all. These breaks have not helped at all - but if you cut those out, then this show is still moving really fast compared to many of the shows in the past few years.

I would rather have Drive find it's own way than be like Gaim. That way it has it's own identity.
I imagine they would only do that if Gaim bombed, and I really hope that isn't the case.

What I hope is that Drive tries something else different, and doesn't backslide into rehashing any old formulas. I also hope Drive is willing to be different right out of the gate, and doesn't insist on doing a "safe" (and also boring) first quarter.
So... It should be like Gaim, then?

Though that last part just screams bad writing to me. This isn't a 13 episode anime here, nor is it Sentai or Showa Rider. You've got to set the stage and build up to stuff.

Only Wizard was like that. Heck, at least Wizard introduced Mage in there somewhere during its dull stretch. Too bad it just took it away almost immediately.

Both OOO and Fourze didn't have this long a stretch with nothing happening except things just getting worse. OOO and Fourze's pacing was much better than this.

Episode 30 was Kikkaider. 31 and 32 was the Yggdrasil being taken over by Redyue, 33 was them planning to infiltrate. Nothing good of note happened in between then and now.

Between this flat out wrong statement and "Fourze post-Cancer having better pacing than anything," I'm at a loss for how to respond to this. Ignoring the skips (you missed 37, the movie tie in) and some hiccup episodes here and there (which were hiccups because they moved so fast, not because they moved slow), this is probably one of the best paced series we've ever had - at the very least, in recent years for sure.

Anyway, are you seriously forgetting Micchy's reveal, his and Takatora's showdown, developments on all sides with Micchy going further off the deep and Kouta becoming more set in what he's going to do, and so on? A ton has happened since the early 30s.

It's not wrong. There was zero progress from episode 30 until now. Everyone is basically worse off than they were in 30. And I don't know why you're not counting the tie-ins because they're kinda there. They still happened and still affect the pacing.

No, I'm not forgetting those. Those are all bad things that happened and the only progress it brought was Kouta knowing Micchy's true nature which didn't help their cause at all. If Takatora succeeded, then you've got a point, but it didn't turn out that way. As far as the story is concerned it's just another problem piled up on a list of other problems.
