Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight - The Official Thread

Sure, Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight does have a lot of flaws, everything isn't perfect. What I'm saying that I actually enjoy this show and this show feels like I'm back in early 90s especially ol' school. I love it. Plus this show makes me happy a lot.

Dragon Knight is the first Heisei to be adapted, so a lot of people were going to expect some bad things. What most people who watched Ryuki (or any other Kamen Rider) wanted is that it's not too execessive being PR-ish or faithfully following the counterpart series, just walking a fine line.

Dragon Knight didn't try to become Saban PR...it didn't try to become Disney PR...it didn't try to be Masked Rider...and it surely didn't want to be Ryuki.

As for Steve and Mike Wang, they should continue to work and produce another Kamen Rider series because they know about Kamen Rider. I'm glad that they are the TRUE fan of Kamen Rider series.

I know a lot of people are going to get angry but...the Wang Brothers should do...

Garo (aka "Super Fanged Warriors" according to Dent and Walden)

...or Guyver the Series. Heck, Skullman or Hikaider the Series.

I...actually thought that was a pretty decent movie. >_o

Nicholas Cage was pretty good in it. I think it could've been a good flick with maybe two more drafts on the script.

What sort of damns it as a poor adaptation of a stellar property, though: the Japanese box office. How bad is your Astro Boy movie when hardly anyone will watch it in the country that loves Astro Boy so much he's an honorary citizen?

(Admittedly it was released over there as "Astro Boy" instead of "Tetsuwan Atom," so maybe nobody knew what the hell it was...)

Me too. I found that movie to be quite entertaining. It really captured the spirit of the original Osamu Tezuka anime. It sure as hell felt like I was watching Astro Boy.

And don't forget the upcoming Gatchaman movie. The trailer shown at Comic Con was fucking awesome!

I won't be surprised if any PR fans who plan to make a death threat to Steve Wang, like SirStack did to Bruce Kalish nor some fan of Transformers who made a death threat to Michael Bay.

That's nothing. I've heard that Bob Skir, one of the story editor's for Beast Machines, recieved so many death threats from "fans" that he had to decline from appearing at Botcon 2000.

I have to admit, I find a lot of the complaints a bit odd. All we have is terse summaries, and for some of the more resourceful, recordings of the show in a language a predominant number of the fandom doesn't speak, or at least fluently. Can't all these "GRRR.....It's Over! I knew it from the beginning! Dragon Knight sucks!" kind of complaints wait until they've actually aired or been widely been found, and seen, in ways that everyone can understand?

Not to mention that Nathan Long, the Wang brothers, and the other writers are getting massive backlash lately as apparently "they didn't live up to their claims," and, for the "cynical," "overpraised their work and wrote them like a 14-year old's fanfiction." If they're getting this much negative reaction from a relatively miniscule amount of people, I can't begin to think what will happen with James Cameron and "Avatar."

Also, am I the only person that liked Ryuki's ending? I thought it fit pretty well. It was Kanzaki's last attempt to redeem himself, grant Yui's wish, and close the book on the Rider Battle for good. It left everyone to move on for themselves and kept the theme that "life goes on," and even then it wasn't perfect for everyone.
Asakura is still out and about, Scissor's is still doing his thing (and will likely get punished for it eventually), Kitaoka will still die from his illness,
and so on. It was neutral and bittersweet, and brought "life" back into a show where "death" was a tad overly abundant. Sort of "Everybody Lives" Doctor Who-ish in a sense.

To quote a troper on Tvtropes:
[HIDE]Kamen Rider Ryuki, whose main premise was "There Can Be Only One," ends with Ren/Knight as the last remaining Rider after everyone else has been killed off. However, the master of the Rider War isn't too happy with this outcome (since his proxy Odin wasn't the winner) and attempts to start things over by rewinding time. However, Yui finally convinces him that no matter how many times the Rider War is run, she will never accept a new life from him if it's at the cost of thirteen others. So this time when he rewinds everything, he stays in the Mirror World with Yui and never starts the Rider War in the first place. Thus, "Everybody Lives." Bravo, Yasuko Kobayashi.[/HIDE]

I agree, the KRDK ending is a bit "overly-neat," but they didn't know if it was going to continue on, so they pulled everything together as best as possible with a limited time and budget. And I thought that pretty much every "toku" ending from Ryuki onwards (including Sentai/PR, Kamen Rider, Gransazer, Rescue Force, Ultraseven X, possibly Garo, etc.) has been branded "horrible" or "contrived" by most of the fans when they came out, with the biggest complaint being that they left off too many plot threads (or brought too many in) and were "abrupt and ambiguous (especially Faiz)." Now that we have a "finished" story (with hints to further adventures), it is "too much in the other direction". Will people make up their minds?

At the end of the day, can't we all just calm down and remember the MST3K Mantra: "It's just a show, I should really just relax." No show is going to be perfect, and in the end it will only last for a period of time. Thus it's a waste to grind one's gears endlessly about a TV show. Death threats and the like are entirely unneeded and only alienate others, or increase the anger levels even further. And in this case, as Tristan says, it only causes more grief for those not wanting to run into spoilers, and just watch the show normally and serves to feed people's dislike by getting them in angry moods before they even watch the show. So can we leave the anger-mongering and excessive spoilers behind until people can actually watch the episodes for themselves?

So far I have to call "meh" on the Gatchaman trailer. The designs don't look anything like the characters and it looks like they're gonna pushing Joe as the POV character at the expense of Ken which is lame because we've seen that movie already. It was called X-Men.

Minuscule? In what sense? HJU isn't a complete cross section of the adult toku/ameritoku/whatever fanbase. This is the only 'big board' I've seen that so aggressively defends this show and screams at anyone who critiques. I've seen more critical response from boards dedicated solely to Dragon Knight. Hmm, interesting.

Nope. Its just how the conclusion is presented, either its going to irritate you or make you praise it. But, almost all of the audience are looking for an "acceptable" ending.

Take the Blade ending...everyone got a happy ending...except for the main character.

However, one thing that should change about the Dragon Knight ending is that the Earth Riders should have remembered what happened and reflect back on it or keep their powers at least.

I think the main reason why many were irritated by the Ryuki ending was that the main character was killed off too early and felt he still had purpose in the game. What would have been better and this was mentioned several times was if a wounded Ryuki was asked by Yui to kill her, I mean Shinji wanted to save Yui's life, her interaction with her brother was fine, but Ryuki should of been in that scene so she can turn to him say..."Kill me and end this game." After all Yui was as much of a Deus Ex Machina as her brother. Afterwards, anything is fair game; heck, use the original ending where Kanzaki resets, then it would be less annoying.

I wasn't just referring to what's going on at HJU. Also I was comparing those in the Toku Fandom (which really is kind of miniscule in comparison to the show(s) target audience), to those talking/seeing James Cameron's Avatar, which is decidely a larger population and more mainstream. If the "hate" is already seemingly "overly-vicious" with Dragon Knight, the wider audience reaction to Avatar (which is decidely dropping down to "Meh" and "Wallbanger" in some circles, even before it has come out) might become a PR nightmare when it is finally released.

...heck, use the original ending where Kanzaki resets, then it would be less annoying.

Wouldn't that make it kind of futile? Eternal Groundhog loops rarely are ever good endings if nothing is shown that the last seen loop will be different some how and in the hero's favour. Also I think Shinji's fate worked, it was a shocking swerve from the norm, made things that much more serious, and he went out the way he wanted, saving people's lives almost impartially, which was what he became a Rider to do. It was to pass that torch to Ren so he could have that chance to consider that path for himself.
