Kamen Rider Decade rumor/picture thread

Because once we stop doing fifty episode of course we'll never get them back [/sarcasm]

Look, why does it matter how long the show is, as long as it doesn't suck. We have to get over this mentality that we have to have a sentai/rider show every year and it has to be 50-52 episodes every year or else it's the end of the franchise. The end of the franchise will come when it's so convoluted and strained with toy merchandising and escalation that it's so ridiculous the fans stop watching. They need to really allow themselves to either make a smaller series that doesn't waste time or anything like that or even take a year off and work on developing something the fans will remember forever

I know that what I'm commenting on isn't neccessarily what you said, but I felt it needed to be said

What in the flying **** is up with the female Kivat

Don't u guys recall Dukemon stating this in one of the original Decade rumors?

He said this Great Rider War thing would be the first half of the series while the 2nd half would be it's own series (with it's own new forms etc...).

After reading that I always kept that in the back of my mind and it looks like it might actually come true.

Interesting concept. So we're getting two rider show's in one. That's smart. If they're working on two stories, they really don't have a lot of time to waste

That said, I can't think of why Bandai would want to push this production style on Toei for Kamen Rider, and I hope Decade isn't produced this way. Both Gundam 00 S2 and Geass R2 were significantly less popular than their initial counterparts because people had time to get tired of the property, and creators clearly lost momentum over the break.

How about we look at is this way:

Before: Bandai spends 10 million (to pull a number from my butt) to produce a year's worth of show for a show that might be a flop, and will only produce a year's worth of toy/merchandizing sales.

Now: Bandai spends 5 million to produce half a year's worth of shows and then if it's a success they spend the other 5 million to produce the next half. If it's not a success, they still made their money with toys and they walk away to do something else, if it IS a success they get 2 years worth of merchandizing out of 1 year's worth of normal show costs. (As they can still sell the toys during the lull between shows and it's still an "active" property.) Cutting their costs in half, and doubling their profits. PLUS, they get to stick another show (and another toy line) in the other half a year slot which can double their profits in another way. (Since a single toy line can only sell so many toys, although Decade seems determined to push that to the limit!)

I'm surprised they haven't done this sooner, and expect it to be the new standard for all their major shows in the future as they struggle to cut costs. Watch for it!

Less filler crap, more story awesomeness.

I just hope the tone of the series doesn't change too much for the 2nd half assuming the first half is seriousness.

How about we look at is this way:

That's an interesting look at the numbers, but the thing is, Geass is the only time this model was used that way. You could debate how successful that was, but Geass R2's production was messed from so many angles it's not a great example.

Bandai spent all the money for 00's production up front, they just broke it into two seasons... I guess thinking it would make the show better? Thinking it would make 00 as popular as Geass? I don't really know.

What actually seems to have happened is that after R2 dropped ratings into the toilet, 00 came back to an audience that didn't care too much about it anymore. Now the production staff are blogging about being depressed and unmotivated and it's just kind of a big mess.

There's no way Bandai doesn't make its money back on basically any Gundam after merchandise is taken into account - even Gundam X is still heavily merchandised - so to me this just seems kind of shortsighted not to go ahead and get all the eps made in one run anyway if you're already committed to 50+.

It's sort of a moot point since I suspect that Decade is not actually going to be produced as two separate seasons with a break in the middle anyway-- the "change over to 'new series' format but basically it's the same thing still" sounds pretty plausible to me and explains how you can do a 30-ep series without screwing over the TV schedule.

The problem with Gundam and Code Geass wasn't the break, it was the blatant stereotyping and character typing in it's cast. Not to mention that they created shows with the intent of selling toys and then trying them to fit into a realmech genre. The problem being that realmech doesn't really work with merchandising since reality isn't supposed to be merchandisable

Also, if you're making an anime solely to make money, they should kick you out of the industry. Let the merchandising people and suits worry about selling things and making money back. The creative staff's job should JUST be to make a good show, because the second the writer's worry about merchandising, that's it.

What's wrong with 00? It's a well written story. Geass may have dropped the ball a bit, but it still turned out okay.. but 00 continues to get better.

Isn't this a thread for Decade stuff anyway?

On another note, until we get confirmation on the show's length and format, baseless specuation won't get us anywhere.

Cardboard characters? Flimsy villains that make the make some of the random "evil for the hell of it" villains in tokusatsu seem deep? Really bad romantic stories? Tons of stuff make 00's second season bad.

Well, this is a rumor thread, so...take that as you will. D:
