I was actually "spoiled" on the "shocker ending", since I watched the show when I was a kid. It's not that I remember everything from the show, but I guess that scene is one of those scenes that just stuck to you, and you remember it happening even if you don't understand or remember anything else.
The effect of the crystals were neat, and truly nasty. The idea was honestly an absurd one, but the execution made it work, and it really looked horrible and excruciating.
:laugh:I actually liked the cup noodle episode. Because it's just so crazy and surreal I was just laughing and grinning all the way through. Though correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the cup noodle episode was an earlier episode, while the Juuza arc happened nearing the 20's?
The writing in Jetman is a bit weird, too be honest. There is a real and tangible disconnect between the "plot" episodes written by the head writer Inoue, and the "fillers" written by secondary writers. I don't know if this is true, but it almost seemed like the head writer and the secondary writers were not communicating, or didn't care what the other was doing. The fillers were written without taking whatever happened in the plot into account, and the plot episodes acted like the fillers were never there.
Also, I find Gai's portrayal quite different from writer to writer, with a difference much too obvious to ignore. Inoue tend to make him basically a selfish bastard and a troublemaker who makes things difficult for the team, being very harsh on him and make him look real pathetic. His Gai is the Gai that went through a journey to become a hero. While in the fillers, Gai's portrayal is of straightforward portrayal of a "cool guy". He was standoffish but not repulsive, and was more morally grey but at heart a good person. He's also a real "bro", something the plot Gai is anything but.
Changing the subject, I really like a lot of the filler episodes of Jetman, and I do think taking them away would make the show lose a lot of its charm. Often in its fillers, Jetman makes some sort of social commentary, some of which can be biting. The most memorable for me being the episode with the trash monster where it discusses people's wasteful behavior, and of course it culminated in a giant monster made of trash going on a rampage and beating up the heroes. The show is already really good, it's those episodes that pushed it to be one of my top favorites.
