Is Gaoranger any good?

I was about to chew Fang out with his "anime-fying" comment but it seems Mattcomics and Lynxara beat me to the punch.

Still though, stating that Super Sentai, and Tokusatsu in general, are getting more anime-like is an oxi-moron. The shows from the get-go have had immense ties with Anime and manga, basically influenced one way or the other from each other. Gachaman, Getter Robo and other Animes similar to it basically made the house sentai lives in, let alone most of the writers for Sentai and Kamen Rider also write for Anime and 99% of the costumes were designed with those same aesthetics in mind when creating them.

AAAnyway, on Gaorangers. I personaly thought the show was extremely boring and kinda played as a mix of Gingaman and Zyuranger, but with none of the good parts of those two other shows. the characters for the most part were bland and boring, the story just pandered around and when something interesting seemed to start happening, it ended up producing stale results.

the power animals wouldn't have bothered me nearly as much if they atleast tried to make it somewhat thematic with the characters themselves (GaoShark gets the javalin Giraffe = wha?:sly and With shows like go-ongers and shinkengers, atleast the mechas all combined into one uber-mecha so it doesn't seem to be such a waste of time (well, not AS much of a waste of time.) but with Gao, they just seemed to have been thrown out there for no other reason then to make another robot, which they weren't going to use later.

Ya don't need to take my word on it but there's plenty of other Sentai to check out other then this one. It's not bad, it's just bland, which is just as bad IMO.

Facial expressions, extreme display of emotions, scenes like Daisuke's makeup duel in Kabuto, that's the kind of thing you tend to see in some animes. And it can work in an anime. But it doesn't work well in a live-action medium.

Understood and hence I apologize for any hostility I might seemed to have had. Usually people try to undermine the influence of anime on things when it's obvious just because they don't like it and it usually annoys me to no end. So again I apologize.

On that though I think it's kind of a double edged sword. Lynxara explained the reason for it better then I could but I think it helps just as much as it hinders. With attacks and such, say the over CGI element slashes in Shinkenger, it just makes it feel more stylized and helps with the overall show, whereas in an older one, changeman for example, when they were going to do something similar, most of the time they would make everybody transform into glowing balls and attack the monster. the comedy though I think isn't just a foundation fo anime, but a styling of japanese comedy. it tends to be really over-the-top sometimes and slapsticky.

I've always felt that Megaranger was Toei's jab at power rangers. Taking the Premise of Power rangers and doing it better then they did it. Funnily enough, the power ranger counterpart is probably the only power ranger (IMHO) which was actually better then the original sentai. (this is coming from a person who really hates power rangers, so it really means something.)

Sentai did the high school thing before PR with Turboranger. So to say Megaranger's premise was influenced by PR seems odd to say.

Having not seen much of Mega, how was it presumably better than PR?

Probably because of the weight behind In Space, it was essentially closing about six year's worth of story up and you saw a ton of returning characters. Or something. I never thought it was that great of a season, but I did like the scope.
