Internet 'Kill Switch' Proposed For President

Guilt by association!

You can say that, but didn't Lieberman actually campaign for John McCain over his own party member Barack Obama?

It's easy to associate Democrats with Democrats, but Lieberman went against his entire party in the previous presidential elections by siding with McCain and the Neo-Cons of the Republican Party.....so I doubt those two can be associated in terms of political viewpoint.

I could care less who goes against who's party. All the political parties in this country suck. That said. I think Lieberman is a douche bag. All his censorship campaigns make me ill.

Correction. Fascism is coming. the second any man has that type of power over information, the domino effect starts.

I came here to be away from Militarism and totalitarianism. To see this place grow more and more towards that mentality. I'm moving to Canada

Republics always **** up. No one has learned that lesson apparently since everybody ignores the fact that they always devolve into empires/totalitarianism or are crushed easily by them. The longest lasting democratic system was from Athens which surpassed Rome's and most likely America's republics.

The kill switch would be pointless since the government did forget that they need to stay on top of information and ahead of other nations. This would just impede that and be detrimental to not only just the people but to our national security. More advanced nations are threats , you would think people would think twice before trying to commit epic fail.

That "lesson" doesn't make sense to me. Republics do sometimes devolve into totalitarianism or are crushed by totalitarian nations, but dictatorships are also crushed by Republics, and often collapse under their own weight. This is just because all government systems fall eventually, either evolving, devolving, or being crushed by something else. There's no reason to single out Republics as somehow unique in their history of failure.

(And really, what is the "lesson" we're supposed to learn, exactly? That no one should ever try to have a representative democracy? Oppressive tyrants are where it's at?)

They can try to do a representative democracy ,but you have to mix the best aspects of Athenian democracy and slight amount of Socialism in order for it to work. The worst thing about our republic is the fact that we cannot directly vote for our president and that a group of the elitist minority can sway the vote to whomever they feel like it. Also if we got to have a more active effect in our government and being able to choose those who truly represent us rather than dealing with the rich that may or may not even care about our situation.

I did go extremely overboard about the fact that republics are evil ,because as you said ,all governments rise and fall and that singling them out was very narrow-minded of me . Republics and other like-minded governmental institutions are the best thing to have ever came to be. It gave the common people the chance to have the authority and be able to elect their own to represent them . It was especially one of the best and innovational forms to have ever been devised amidst the monarchal divine rule which oppressed various peoples during the Middle Ages along with no separation of church and state .

We need to break away from feudalism altogether as that though it has officially been gone for centuries ,it has unofficially began to pervert our republic by making it harder for individuals to get to the top. We need to make our nation an equal opportunity nation , as well as keep our nation the land of the free . We need to protest this bill ,guys. For Justice!!!
