I like Kamen Rider Kiva, But....

For someone looking to get into Kamen Rider, would you recommend Kiva as a starter series?

Not really............and I say this as a person who had Kamen Rider Kiva as their first Kamen Rider series. There was a time during the early part of Kiva that made me wanna quit the Kamen Rider franchise all together b4 even watching the other series, so it isn't a good idea to start with Kiva if you want to gain some interest in the franchise.

Kuuga, Agito and maybe Kabuto are the series I recommend as a starter into the Rider franchise. Kiva is a series you should approach after you watch Decade.

However, if you don't want to become entirely "turned-off" by Kiva, I recommend you watch Kiva before Den-O.

I wouldnt even recommend Decade until you watch the previous 9 shows though.

I think Decade is good enough to watch as either the starting series (let's be real, people that enter a toku franchise couldn't give a rats ass about storylines until they are further into the toku franchise itself) or after you've seen 2-3 Kamen Rider series.

Decade, like it or not based on its pathetic storyline execution, is a crash-course series for Kamen Rider newbies. Even if you've only seen one Rider series before Decade, Decade is still good enough to watch. It's a series you can fit in any order of your playlist, and it is still good enough to watch at that point.

Do you think a new person to the franchise gives a rats ass about storyline execution? If they did, Den-O wouldn't have created more Rider fans at a rapid rate. Decade still has that "IT factor" that can attract a new person to the Rider franchise.........STORY or NO STORY

I agree. I never liked how Taiga got the Dark Kiva gear, as it defeated the whole idea of a past Kiva and a present Kiva. "Gold" Kiva was Taiga's by birthright, but it went to Wataru instead. That's the only reason Taiga even uses the Saga gear.

Taiga and Wataru should have been a bit more evenly matched, regarding your point. But I think they might've still been stuck in the Kabuto/Den-O rut of "the hero must be a virtual god and always incapacitate his enemies!"

Kiva did get curbstomped by Ixa a few times though and Otoya-Ixa got his ass handed to him by Dark Kiva so did Kiva I don't see how the heroes are godlike here.It was kind of the point that Kiva could kick Saga's ass considering that the Kiva armor is way stronger than the Saga one.But they could have given Taiga the advantage in experience considering he's been fighting longer then Wataru had at that point still I liked Kiva the only thing that pissed me off was the whole Mio love triangle.

Saga is a training armor for the prince. Revealed by outside material.

Taiga's snake powers are obviously just part of his Fangire powerset, although he never showed his actual Fangire form.

Ah, sorry, I don't really bother reading outside materials much unless I really like a series or I'm very curious about it. Still weird to think Taiga's a cobra Fangire though. I mean...don't their motifs follow through in the family line? =.=

No, not Kabuto. The whole idea is to introduce a new fan using the best entries to the franchise. Kabuto doesn't even reach "average"

I wouldn't recommend Decade under any conditions >>

Not that I don't get where you're coming from (and I sort of share your cynicism) but that's using a rather broad brush, wouldn't you say? By that reasoning I watched my first Metal Hero only for the shiny costumes and explosions. (Come to think of it, I can't even remember what my first Metal Hero was. But I do know Metalder was the first I finished.)

How is it a crash course when a lot of the Worlds deviated from the premises of the original shows?

I'm torn between agreeing with you and lamenting your Hobbesian view of the fandom.

Well the truth of the matter is people "entering the fandom" are not considering part of the fandom YET. Therefore, if you think I'm questioning the intelligence of the fandom........I'm not. Fact of the matter is, newbies aren't part of the fandom until they've actually jumped into it all the way.

You can call it me having a Hobbesian view, but I call it that "newbies" aren't part of the fandom........so I can't question the fandom's intelligence if the newbies aren't a part of the fandom.

It looks pessimistic, but it is reality.

I mean, did you think about storylines when you were a young kid watching Mighty Morphin Power Rangers for the first time?

Like I said, it may be a Hobbesian view..........but it is no different from how everyone was when they first saw a toku show/franchise for the first damn time.

Bingo. That's how exactly I got here.

Though given my having seen half of Heisei now, I'd still put Decade just below W in terms of its story execution. :P It's a great starter, and a wonderful way to introduce people to both Rider and toku as a whole... except--much like Den-O--it kinda commits the grievous crime of making the rest of Heisei Rider look fun and accessible.

(Also, will be watching Faiz next)

I know that Decade was your very first Rider series in the Heisei era.

But Son, NOW YOU'RE JUST PUSHING IT :shakefist (on behalf of the W fans LOL)

But we're not 5 years old anymore. We do come into these shows expecting quality, unless you're a die-hard fanboy who doesn't give a damn about anything as long as the show exists at all. Or if you just write off everything as just "kids' show material".
