How do you reply to people who thinks Toku are for kids?

But i do believe him if its targeted towards kids, look Japan is very free in things they do, almost everything is acceptable.

Saying its not for kids is very ignorant, cause most violent series or thats action packed in a very mature way is mostly for kids.

But it isn't target towards kids, it's targeted towards shounen. Look it up will you. Only the american dubs are targeted towards kids because those homicidal freaks thought "Hey, those kids are the goldmine of the house, let's dig em"

Toku shouldn't be taken seriously, because it isn't. It's ridiculous. Rubber monster suits with visible zippers will always be ridiculous. How do you respond to people who think it's just for kids? Acknowledge that it's silly but has elements an adult fan can enjoy.

Well, a lot of toku is meant for kids. There is no arguing with that. There are just a lot of elements that adults can enjoy too.

My brother can be pretty harsh about my interests...but I know he's joking and I make fun of him for liking Star Trek. Although I swear I was going to punch him when he picked up my Kamen Rider V3 box set and mistook it for Saban's Masked Rider.

Since this is off topic I will make it quick

Most Gundam series, if not all, are aimed at shounen groups, which means adolescence, which means boys between 13-18 of age. Anyway I don't think a lot of kids will understand the overt politic, the sense of futility of war, the warning of overpopulation and the war between humans in which the line between good and bad grew increasingly ambiguous. A lot of adults admitted that the Gundam plot is very thought provoking in this regard.

But I don't blame you since you obviously grew up watching those despicable dubs, which tone down the plot to kindergarden level so that the little kids won't get a headache. Grrrrrr, I just f***ing hate those dubs. (Don't get me wrong, I know there are some good dubs out there, but the majority of them make me want to kill the dubbers, specially Toonami ones)

If you have any counter arguments feel free to pm me, I don't think the mods would be happy if we keep going off topic

You do realize that Shounen means boy right? In other words a male kid. And you'd be surprised at what little boys can understand. Hell Space Runway Ideon was still meant for kids. See just because you don't think kids will understand the show doesn't mean the show wasn't targeted at kid. Look up your sources come on Gundam was always targeted for kids like most mecha shows back then. It was originally called Freedom Fighter GunBoy. Just look up your sources, Gundam was always a kidshow but sometimes kids shows can look and grow to be more mature than what their label is. Let me bring up some other examples of childrens shows that seem more mature than their label, how about Doctor Who? Mazinger Z ring a bell? Devilman? Actually most of Go Nagai's work. Or how about Batman: TAS? That was more mature than the Batman movies at the time and it was still targeted at kids.

And since when were the dubs in question? See when I told you to bring up a reasoning for your statement I didn't mean to go off talking about something else. Quit trying to dodge the topic. For one I can obviously tell you never watched the dubs since they were completely accurate to their Japanese counter parts, well Wing, 08th, and a good deal of G at least, MSG had its fair share of inaccuracies but it didn't dumb down the plot. Are you just making things up as you go along now? Unless you're referring to the Seed dubs which I never watched because I barely watched Seed in general. No need to get your panties in a bunch over dubs I suggest you calm down and take a break from the internet if they make you angry. Especially if they make you so angry that you want to kill them. And you know you can say **** on the internet no one's going to spank you over it.

And yes I did watch Gundam dubbed but I also watched every Gundam series I've seen subbed as well. Because most of the dubs, especially 0080's, were pretty solid dubs. If you want a list of every Gundam series, movies, and OVAs I've seen here: MSG, Zeta, ZZ, Wing, Turn A, G, 08th, 0080, 0083, Victory, F91, G-Saviour, CCA, and 00. The only one I haven't seen dubbed of the bunch is 00 because its not a series I want to watch twice.

Why is it any more ridiculous than the stuff Western superheroes come up with? This whole "ridiculous by nature" argument is itself ridiculous. It's just an unwitting parroting of the put-downs committed by people who mocked PR and stuff like it.

Well he didn't say western superheroes weren't ridiculous. Because put in the right direction they can be ridiculous or serious, same goes for toku. Lets use Batman and the original Kamen Rider as our examples, put in the right context either can be ridiculous or serious. For Batman it can be campy and crazy fun for kids like Adam West's Batman, Batman & Robin, or Batman: Brave and the Bold. But Batman can also be serious if steered in the right direction like Batman R.I.P., Mask of the Phantasm, and The Dark Knight. For Kamen Rider it can be ridiculous fun for kids like the Original Kamen Rider series and Kamen Rider SD, but it can also be thrown in a serious direction like Kamen Rider: The First or Kamen Rider Spirits.

Both can be ridiculous and serious its just that both are usually focused towards one side, for toku its the childish fun.

I never said it was. Costumes and fighting monsters and big transforming robots is child's play, regardless of what country it's coming from. You can tell a deep and dramatic story, but at it's core, it's light hearted and silly. I don't know why that's so hard to embrace. And I don't know who you think i'm parroting, how many people are willing to admit this stuff is goofy? According to this thread.. not many.
