How do you reply to people who thinks Toku are for kids?

By what, making a movie about a romance between terminally-ill hospital patients who suddenly are members of a terrorist group? Seriously?

You're nitpicking here thats much more serious than a show only about a couple of guys in suits kicking cheesy looking monster of the week guys until they explode.

See I wasn't saying The First is a SUPER SUPER SERIOUS version of the original Kamen Rider, its just the original Kamen Rider thrown in a more serious light. You don't see Hongo in the First movie acting all "I FIGHT FOR JUSTICE AND ALL THAT IS RIGHT TOH!" like Hongo is in the original series.

I think most people who worked on that show agree the stars were in perfect alignment to make TAS possible. Though I do think in the past five years we've seen cartoons on par with or better than TAS.

Samurai Jack is the first one that comes to mind.

So, "I FIGHT FOR SNOWFLAKES - FUUUUUU!" makes it more serious?

Did Hongo in the movie announce that like how Hongo does in the original series (which is what I was referring too)? No he didn't. Its just an example.

See I'm not saying The First is a super serious version of the original series its just a more serious take at it and less targeted at children but more for a general audience (don't get me wrong though it was still meant for the kids but not as much as the original series was).

Two things:

1) It's entirely possible for something to appeal to both kids and adults. I don't see why it has to be one way or the other, and Toei did a pretty good job of keeping that balance until the last few years. Why the hell does Toei have to make a purely kiddy show like Go-onger instead of making something that appeals to both kids and adults? They're cutting out half their potential audience.

2) On the other hand, there is no way in hell Toei will stop milking their franchises for toy sales. Toei's main source of revenue is royalties from toys and other licensed products based on their shows. Nobody in their right mind walks away from a major revenue source. It would be a stupendously-poor business decision for Toei to tell Bandai to cut down on the number of toys per show; hell, if Japan were a more litigious society, it would get Toei sued by their shareholders for simply walking away from the revenue.

He basically did -- in fact, it was even worse since he spent a good part of the movie's brutal 90 minutes making speech after speech about snowflakes. He might as well have approached one of the villains, saying "You ruined my snowflakes -- yurusan!"

I don't think Go-onger appealed to even kids. I mean...I don't even think stoners could have gotten enjoyment from that show.

He didn't exactly say it in the cheesy heroic manner that Hongo did in the original series. But this is just nitpicking an example here.

What I was trying to say as a whole, The First and might as well thrown in the awful The Next in there too were more serious takes at the source. Not super serious but just less targeted at younger audiences than their source material was.

You will not win the arguement. Shougz & that other peice of work are too hard headed. Just leave it and let them think what they think.

Too true. TAS was amazing. I even still liked it ok when they merged it with Superman. But what recent cartoons are you talking about? With my luck, they're all on cable... :redface2:
