From reading the title (before seeing the thread), I thought the Red Lanterns were Chinese or something. (As in Raise the Red Lantern.)

It's either a veiled statement against Communism, or yet more grim 'n gritty antics by Dan DiDio and company.

He looks like he'd appear in a future issue of Captain Carrot and his Amazing Zoo Crew! Which is not bad.
