Well, it's a common practice to just ommit the "n" in "nag". It's being straight to the point IMHO, since you often attach words to it. (ie Nag-patong, Nag-buhol, Nag-butas, Nag-sala, etc.).
Might not be exactly proper practice, but it shouldn't really be an issue. It's like saying nobody should use NetLingo like "ROFL", "ZOMG", "LOL". I mean are there really words like that in the Oxford Dictionary? WALA! So wag na maging SPELLING NAZI, parang naman buong post ko walang katuturan tulad nung kay RidermanX.
