Man, there are a lot of Kamen Rider films, aren't there? Yet, I find most of the ones I've seen to be, well, of rather low cinematic quality. However, with so many films, there are bound to be some great ones. So which ones are your favorite films in the Kamen Rider franchise? They don't necessarily need to be theatrical releases, a movie is a movie.
My top films, in no order.
Kamen Rider W Returns: Kamen Rider Accel - In a lot of ways, I consider this a pitch perfect superhero film, as well as a pitch perfect Kamen Rider film. We see Accel go through pain, loss, confusion, and ultimately, redemption. Terui is one of my all time favorite Kamen Riders, and this movie showcases with incredible ability as to why I adore the character. He is a fantastic protagonist, and the film introduces an antagonist that suits as a well-made antithesis to Terui's current ideals. Brilliant film, and one of the best in the franchise.
Kamen Rider Kabuto: God Speed Love - I actually prefer the film over the series. In only an hour, we get emotional depth, three dimensional characters, a well plotted-out conspiracy, and one of the best villains in the Rider films (Kamen Rider Caucasus). For the first time ever, I actually cared about Tendo. We watch him bleed, we watch him struggle, and despite his rough exterior and arrogant personality, we truly see why he's the hero. Granted, I saw the 65 minute cut, and would kill to see the uncut 80 minute version.
Five Riders vs. King Dark - My favorite of the old school Kamen Rider Movies. It's just a really fun action-packed romp, never slowing down and having some good ol' fashioned badguy bashing. Granted, this is the film that infamously retconned Riderman back to life, but even then his return is too cool to ignore. Frankenbat's a weird kaijin, but you gotta love the back missiles and awesome design. Just a lot of outlandish and crazy fun.
Runner up's "ZO." I found it a little dull, but Doras was one of the best, if not THE best, of the movie villains.
