Donald Glover wants to be Spider-Man

Yeah I agree these superheroes have years of history behind them and people recognize them a certain way. You change one icon you might as well change them all which isn't right. No one wants black superheroes white especially black people, so changing another character's race is just as wrong. You can't have it going just one because it's not fair, and when you get down to how people react it won't make things better.

Here's another reason why Glover won't work and it's nothing to do with his race. It's his age. The reboot is supposed to be Ultimate Spider-Man, meaning high school Spider-Man.

Wait... what? It is supposed to be Ultimate Spider-Man?

I'm up for it. Someone needs to get Samuel L. Jackson to join that movie.

Here... there's a right way and a wrong way this would be done of Peter was black.

NOBODY WANTS IT DONE THE WRONG WAY.

And for some reason people against it are ONLY considering the wrong way to do it and feel that's the only way it can be done..... as wrong as humanly possible.

The Right Way: Peter is played by an actor who is black.... nothing else changes.

The Wrong Way: Because Peter's black he needs to deal with racism every minute of the movie, love rap, not be photographer, be an aspiring DJ, deal with interracial relationship, and everything that has to do with a black stereotype and nothing to do with Peter Parker..... and everything probably takes place in the hood..... give the movie an R&B soundtrack.

That's pretty much what we have here. I've yet to hear anyone against this explain why doing it The Right Way would be a bad thing. The only universe they seem to be able to consider is The Wrong Way.

I expect to see a similar tack from you the next time a Prince of Persia or Airbender pops up again.

And frankly, I don't care. There's such a small smattering of minority heroes then generally aren't used at the big two (Marvel is better than DC at this point) why would I? Do I have to repost the pictures of the 'classic' JLA and Avengers again?

May I ask... Isn't this about the "Reboot" of Spiderman? So, if it is a "reboot" then they can change a lot about the history, race, hell even his religion if they want to... The deal is, they (writers/directors/producers) will need to make decision in a way to still be able to sell the story to the masses. Why? It's still business. If they can't get their money back and earn from the movie distribution, and additional market franchise - toys, food, etc... Well, you know what happens... Just my opinion... Peace!

Just to add... The only reason you have a lot of the DC/Marvel super heroes to be White, is/was because the when they first created those characters, it was predominantly a white culture... If you go to Asia, it's mostly Asian Characters... So... If Mr. Glover auditions and doesn't nail the part, then someone else will step up. If he's good enough, then make a black Spiderman... well, a black Peter Parker... to be more politically correct an African-American Peter Parker.... I'm not white, I'm not black... I'm Asian. So don't tell me that I'm favoring one culture over another.

Oh, btw, I do like the discussions here... Cool! Keep it coming. Maybe we can put a poll up?

It WASN'T a predominantly white culture. America's a melting pot, but they pretended it wasn't. That's why you had black singers with records that had white people on them like they were the singers.

And you know what? I don't care WHAT race Peter Parker is: But if the next one has no wisecracks, its an auto-fail.

Agreed about PP being a wise crack... Hey, that's almost saying that he's a Cracker... no offense... What I meant about "white" culture is that most of the creators during those "golden" years, they were Caucasians...

I agree with you 100%. Just because the race changes doesn't mean the story should be altered because he's black. If it was up to me i would give the film a soundtrack on par with the original and then mix some other styles of music in, perhaps the blues ,reggae if his Aunt and Uncle are Jamaican and want to bring their culture to their nephew, and perhaps a little techno/rap/metal for some of the fighting scenes.
