Donald Glover wants to be Spider-Man

Honestly, I'd be against it only because of things like this thread. The film would become (not in the script, I hope, but in the public eye) about whether or not Sony made the right decision making him black, and not about the merits of the film itself.

Not the same... BA Barracus and Blade actually pretty closely tied to being black.

Yeah, being black is the only real "twist" Marvel added to the Blade character. If you change it, you just have one of many fictional "half-breed vampire hunter" types.

You could make BA Barracus white, I think. What people associate with the character is the idea that he looks tough and is very strong, but acts endearingly silly and childish in some ways. He's from the same basic archetype as, say, the Thing.

So, let's say you dress BA Barracus up as more of a Hell's Angel biker than an inner city street tough. He can still have the mohawk and be covered in tattoos and chains. If he still drinks milk and won't fly in a plane and loves his van, that's BA Barracus.

Point: Lynxara

You're actually right... BA really actually isn't tied to a race. :) I was thinking that actually, but didn't think anyone would call me out on it. ^__^

Exactly. Being black does not mean the hero would change significantly because unless he's Cap or the Black Panther , then it won't harm the story at all.

Wait a minute guys! Is that the guy who works with Derrick Comedy? I really love to see a real black Spiderman! No need to infuse with symbiote.

I would be just as opposed to any drastic change to Peter Parker, such as having him live with his parents, letting Uncle Ben live, making him willing to kill, changing his powers drastically (giving him natural web-shooters wasn't that drastic a change), etc.

Hey, fair enough. You dislike drastic change in whatever form. I can stand behind that.

BA Barracus is tied to being Mr. T., not being black. Much like Hannibal is tied to being George Peppard.

Blade you could probably get away with it as well.

I mean, I got over them recasting Starbuck and Boomer in the Battlestar reboot. In fact, I feel it worked out better in some cases. (Apollo/Starbuck sexual tension in full swing!)
