It's Christmas 2008 "The Next Doctor" all over again. It's good to finally get back into the groove of things.










Marnix Van Der Broeke who appeared as Death in the Sky Television adaptations of "The Hogfather" and "The Colour of Magic" is in the opening two-part story as "The Silent" It could just be a coincidence, but I think it's fair to say that the character might be connected to the last series' unresolved "Silence will fall" plot thread.

So what we know so far is the two parter will be in the US. Mark Sheppard and Alex Kingston are also in the episode.

The Doctor Who series five soundtrack has been uploaded on the Final Fantasy Shrine Forums.

People have started getting their pre-orders from Silva and are reporting an error on the master for "I Am the Doctor" which I can confirm having been able to download the album from the shrine forums. It skips for a few seconds near the end of the track almost as if someone pushed pause on the recorder. The rest of the album is terrific though.

There will be a speech in the Christmas special about the Doctor not having a hat. Already knew this. No fez, unfortunately.


Matt Smith calls Karen Gillen “Plumpy sparrow†because she likes to eat but doesn’t put on weight.

The “Jeff co-ordinates the experts via his laptop†scene in “The Eleventh Hour†was originally going to take place in a classroom full of kids (without the porn references)… Oh, but the references make that scene!


Also in “The Eleventh Hourâ€, during the video conference, the guy above Patrick Moore is the director’s brother. Next year, this'll be our Doctor Who of the Day.

The cave corridors in the Silurian two-parter were redressed corridors from the Byzantium in the Weeping Angels two-parter (that’s why they’re both circular). Not surprising. They're constantly saving money this way.
Karen calls her chin her “plural†because she thinks she has a double chin. That's just disturbing . . .

The Tennant-era TARDIS makes an unscheduled cameo appearance in “The Time Of Angels†– they used the wrong CGI version in the scene where River flies through space. So they DID use the wrong one! (This has been a source of discussion for a while now.)

Matt Smith eats egg and cress sandwiches on set nearly every day.
In “The Time Of Angels†Matt Smith really did bite Karen’s hand. Her scream was for real.


The gondolas in “The Vampires Of Venice†were filmed in Caerphilly Castle moat and CGIed in later. Been there! Recommended for any Cardiff-bound vacation.


The Pandorica Chamber was the biggest set ever built for Doctor Who to date. Already knew that, most of us.

Matt bought a copy of football mag Match as a Secret Santa present.

Karen bought Matt a Katherine Jenkins calendar. Before or after she became a guest star?


The line about the “final resting place of the Headless Monks†in “The Time Of Angels†was texted by Moffat to the crew when producer Piers Wenger felt that the ecclesiastical location needed some explanation.

Amy learnt about all the Doctor’s previous companions in-between “Flesh And Stone†and “The Vampires Of Veniceâ€. That explains a lot.

Mark Gatiss’s favourite colour is orange.

The Silurian voiceover during “Cold Blood†was a post-filming addition, scripted by Steven Moffat. No wonder it felt out of place.

Mark Gatiss has been trying to sneak the phrase “arrows of the half-light†into a script for years (he failed again with “Victory Of The Daleks†– it was cut).

Alex Kingston was worried she would look like mutton dressed as lamb as Cleoptra.

Originally the book the Doctor finds in “The Time Of Angels†was going to have been written by one of the warrior clerics whom the Angels had sent back in time. Oh, that would've been amazing!

Looks like someone got the series 5 DVD early - they've uploaded the scene following Amy's kiss attack on the Doctor in her bedroom at the end of "Flesh and Stone". It is HILARIOUS!!

This is the scene where Amy finds out about all the previous girl companions

Absolutely brilliant. Though they would affect the flow of the stories if they were kept in, it's a shame they're only going to be seen on the DVD as they work quite well in bridging the gaps as well as in providing more basic info to the newer viewers (the Chameleon Circuit, the concept of previous companions [which interestingly it took them nearly a Series-and-a-half to do with Rose], the various reasons the Doctor has companions, and so on). I do find it interesting though that in these franchise-spanning montages they tend to keep everything in monochrome, just to make everything "fit," regardless of the age of the material. This does have the unfortunate implication that everything that registers the Doctor's actions/the various devices in the TARDIS, can't seem to record anything in colour.

Also on the DVD releases will be a set of outtakes from Series 5, much like they did with the Series 2 and 3 releases. Here's a few snippets as a preview:

The Doctor didn't seem sad on seeing her, even though she should be dead, considering she was last heard of on Gallifrey (as was Romana)...
