Doctor Who -Talk Up! (General Discussion)

EDIT: Just had a look at my brother's Facebook status: "He's British when he's winning and Scottish when the Daleks take over the earth"
HaHaHaHa! Oh British humor! I...I don-I don't get it...

I'm totally game for an old man doctor. I thought they wouldn't have the balls to go against the tween fanbase but this is awesome. He's kinda looks like an old Tennant anyway. My suggestion though. I want him to look like this for the role.

Lol me too. He looks like Dr. Strange in that photo. I guess doctors are his thing.

Didn't expect a 55 year old, but I'm fine with and older Doctor. I mean, wasn't Matt's Doctor initially intended and written for an older actor, but Matt was so good during the audition that they ended up casting him? The more important question is, how is his Doctor going to be? More grim and serious, the wacky professor, the fun and kind grandfather?

Also, after Smith and Tennant, I personally do want BBC to do something to remind the audience on who the Doctor really is, a thousand year-old humanoid alien. Matt's Doctor did that well, but it was overshadowed by his youthful appearance and energy. A lot of fans(modern series fans, specifically) sees the Doctor as a handsome, conveniently human-looking alien and thinks of him as a dashing hero who will sweep them off their feet(didn't help that he's always accompanied by pretty young ladies). The Doctor is, and always has been, a sage, and a madman.

I'm quite happy with an older Doctor - it's a little bit of a change even if he's still a white man (and people seem to forget that the Doctor was first conceived as an old grandfather looks-wise.) A bit shaky on Peter Capaldi because I can't disassociate him from his character's storyline on Torchwood, which upset me to watch. But I'm sure I'll get over that once he is actually playing the Doctor
You managed to sit through that Torchwood story? Wow, that's hardcore. For my money Torchwood became unbearable when it switched to the "mini-series" format :redface2: I haven't seen 'The Thick of It' either, so he's pretty much a blank slate for me.

Fish fingers and custard just became a deep-fried Mars bar!

The three tent poles of British humour:
1. Innuendo
2. Puns. Not thought out to the extent of the Japanese, but still puns.
3. Black comedy.

Mix together and add a side order of sarcasm.

I'm cool with this, I've been through enough Doctors that I'm willing to give him a chance.

They got it right. That's actually unexpected.

He doesn't need to be youthful, the Doctor certainly isn't :P

Love that story, absolutely love it.

I guess youthful was a bad word, obviously you can't be when your 1000 years old. More or less be able to attract the tween fanbase everyone is talking about, relateable to all ages is a better use of words.

Also, I got that story wrong. He was writing about the next anniversary, which was at that time would have been the 25th anniversary which did not happen yet as I wrote about in my previous post. But non the less the story is awesome and it's truly amazing we have a long die hard fan playing the Doctor. As soon as rumors started coming around, and Peter Capaldi's name was thrown around, I looked him up from him as Cecilus to his character in Torchwood(drawing a blank, I'm a newer Doctor Who fan), to his time as playing a spin Doctor. I thought he could really pull the Doctor off.

Although I am new, I like how Moffat went back to an older Doctor to remind us all what the Original Doctors brought us and what the current series is based upon.

I can't say it enough, I am 100% behind this.

Most will say Torchwood was unberable BEFORE it switched to the mini-series format 9though I always enjoyed it), whilst even I can objectivly say Miracle Day was a misfire (althought I still find it underrated), Children of Earth is commonly hailed as it's best ever season and Capaldi was the undisputed star of it.

Since Pertwee is my favorite Doctor. I am down with an older doctor. I love it when older actors and actresses step up to the plate. Besides William Hartnell started it all at 55 so another 55 year old so it kind of bookends things.
