You can't have one without the other. Without his ever having been Robin there is no Nightwing. Period.

I think Robin as character and a concept gets way too bad a rap anyways.

It's not that I don't like Robin. It's that I like the idea of Dick growing up and getting away from his mentor- establishing himself as a superhero in his own right MORE. The new name + awesome new costume was simply a coming of age for him, haha.

Just like the original Speedy became The Red Arrow.

Tim does a better job at being Robin anyway.
