Darkest/Best Ultraman series?

I'm actually really enjoying Seven X. The whole futuristic deal makes me gag, since it was done just as every other show set in the future was. But I just like watching the agents running around catching aliens. It's fun, and it's nice that the giant battles aren't prevalent in this show (at least from what I've seen). Seven X is pretty good, but Nexus definitely drew me in more.

Mebius, eh? I've seen some clips, and I'm planning on watching it soon. And Gaia does seem good from what I've read of the discussion thread. I'll look for it...subbed?

Honestly though, I've seen bits and pieces of older Ultra shows, and they don't look appealing at all. Nexus was so amazing that I came to like the giant battles in it, but the other ones I've seen...ugh. I don't think Ultraman is my thing, lol...would you say Gaia, or another Ultra, is an exception like Nexus?

It's a (mostly) aesthetically pleasing show. The out of suit fights are pretty fun to watch, much more so than in Garo, but they seen a bit cliche, most of the series does. Like I said before, to me it feels like Tsuburaya or whoever is writing the series is just throwing an adult feel out there so they can say it's an adult show when there really isn't any substance to back that up with.

Gaia isn't subbed, but you can get by pretty good in the discussion thread with help from other members. Mebius is a really fun series to watch, from Hunter Knight Tsurugi and Ultraman Hikari to the appearances from the all of the older Ultras to the interesting bunch of villains and members of GUYS, it's an all around great series.

I personally like the fights, but they're not good all of the time, I think the real strength of the shows are with the human interactions. Though generally shows like Gaia, Nexus~Mebius have great fights in them.

I kind of losing interest in watching Ultraseven X. They need more action instead of talking all the time for llike 15 minutes and 30 seconds to 1 minute fight on every episode.

I continue to be amazed that people can like one show with people running around and fighting in flashy costumes, but not like other shows with people running around and fighting in flashy costumes.

Anyhow, the original point of the Ultra Series is the monsters, not the heroes, or the fights -- the effect of giant monsters upon human civilization was the emphasis of ULTRA Q and this was carried through to the follow up series, ULTRAMAN. So, the hero was just created to fight the monsters and resolve the dilemma or the monster, because the original concept for ULTRAMAN was a benevolent giant monster fighting against malevolent monsters.

When the producers felt that television viewers would have trouble distinguishing between the antagonist and protagonists, they asked Tsuburaya Productions to change the heroic monster into a humanoid alien. The rest, as they say, is history.

If you like ULTRASEVEN X, you might want to check out the original ULTRA SEVEN. I would recommend ULTRAMAN GAIA, which I still consider the best ULTRAMAN show of the Heisei Era (then again, it's close to my heart, since I spent several days and nights on the set of the show), but if you don't dig "giant battles," then stick to KAMEN RIDER.

Then again, if you don't give these other shows a chance (sounds like you've already made up your mind not to like them), how will you ever know?

Like I've said in the talkback thread, I think Ultraseven X isn't about the monster fights, it's mainly about the mysteries they set up so far. At this point it I think we have to wonder how interconnected they are to each other

It kind of reminds me of the old, Twilight Zone-like mysteries of the old Ultra Q series! :sweat:

Most of those mysteries though are pretty generic by-the-book sci-fi 101 stuff though. I'm not even bothered by the lack of Ultra fights too much, it's the core of the show that I just don't find interesting. As I've said, it seems to me that Tsuburaya just rushed to make something they could call an "adult show" when there really isn't anything too adult in it.

I've seen the first six episodes and up till now I've only liked episode 3. I'm gonna keep watching to the end, but I just wish this show could have been used to the fullest. Personally I see this as the nail in the coffin for adult Ultra shows, that is if it's been doing as badly as I've heard.

I think having Nexus in the original time slot offered to it would have been much better.

I have to agree with u on this one. Fight scenes speaks louder than words. But i like Ultraseven X because of its mystery surrounding the main characters like Jin, Elea. But i wonder i called it an "adult show" when there is nothing adultish about it apart from Jin going to the bar to have a drink :eyebrow:

With Tsuburaya Productions being taken under the umbrella of the colossal entertainment juggernaut, TYO, expect to see even more Ultra Series (and movies) in the near future -- ULTRA GALAXY is starting on December 1st!

As for the bar scenes in ULTRASEVEN X, there's also bar scenes in ULTRAMAN TIGA (Munekata's hangout) and in ULTRAMAN GAIA.
