Darkest/Best Ultraman series?

I just finished Nexus. I didn't want to make another thread for it, since it's discussed a lot in this one.

Ultraman Nexus was amazing. I've always hated giant battles, and I still do. I can't stand mecha. Nexus...was an exception. Komon was a great protagonist, and easy to relate to. The horror/mystery in the show gave it a nice atmosphere, and a good context for the "light." For some reason...the battles in Nexus didn't bother me was much -- they did initially, but later on I found that I enjoyed them quite a bit.

I really got hooked during the second half of the series, when Ren and Junis Blue came into the picture. Although Himeya Jun was badass, Ren made everything more fun to watch. His story, and the twist/surprise at the end were eye-openers... I found Ultraman Noa to be incredibly ugly though. :O

Nexus = teh shiznit.

So, if someone enjoyed Nexus immensely...what other Ultra series might they like? ;)

I've heard alot of great stuff about Tiga and Dyna. Sadly I can't find them subbed, but I'm not sure if thats an issue for you.

You can find official subbed DVDs of Tiga on Amazon pretty cheap.

And yes Tiga is very good

Ultraseven X.
But Nexus was good, Seven X is just boring. It's not making any real use of its characters and just doesn't seem to be going anywhere, which is especially bad for a series its length. I think Tsuburaya is trying too hard to make Seven X seem adult in aesthetics only, there really isn't too much deep there in terms of story or characters. Nexus is the better of the adult Ultra series in my mind.

I honestly think if you like Sentai, you'll probably like Mebius. It's about the same in tone (most Ultra shows are) but it's got some of the better characters in tokusatsu of late.

What was good about Tiga?
Personally, I don't see it as the be all end all series that a lot of Ultra fans think it is, but it's got nice character relationships and Tiga's backstory is pretty darn cool. Though the final battle was a bit of a let down.

If you want a really good series though, Ultraman Gaia is your choice. I'm on episode 17 so far and it's an awesome series. Got a great rivalry between the two Ultras and they've both got pretty interesting ideals on how and why they protect earth.

Or heck, Ultra Galaxy starts in a few days, you could watch that. It's going to be a pretty interesting series, no Ultras or real henshin heroes to start off with, at least for the first few episodes.
