I've been watching a pair of old school sentai that are classics but can't be more different, tone wise.
I have reached Episode 20 of Jetman, and it is officially starting to earn it's Serious Business reputation. A couple eps earlier Vyram general Radiguet is cursed by his Empress to lose his memories and became human. During this time he meets and heals a lovely but sick young woman. Now, any modern sentai, this would have been the point where he'd learn of humanity and possibly turn face. Suffice to say... he doesn't. :O_O: Catch eps 17 and 18, they're pretty hardcore.
On the flip side, I've also begin watching Dynaman, a much lighter and odd sentai series. It's got Science, a ninja, a cowboy and lots of explosions. Also, a solid looking robot with a slight resemblance to Vehicle Voltron. Still, the fights are good and over the top. Dynaman's also a bit notorious for it's wacky-dub back in the Mid 80s. Up to about Episode 3 on this one so far.
Looking forward to see where these two shows head.
