Classic Sentai Thoughts

I was hoping Ryu was going to be the one axed; his story was complete, he lost his love, he would die fighting for his home, blah blah blah, and if he had died in battle, blowing up with the jet icarus or whatever I would have been fine with it.

Not only that, but the marriage is really forced. Ryu spends the entire series not even acknowledging Kaori exists, he's hung up on his (kinda) dead girlfriend, and then, BAM, one measly talk and he's suddenly in love with her? Come on, man. The way Kaori couldn't force emotions for Gai that weren't there, I felt like Ryu couldn't stir up emotions for Kaori that weren't there, and they get married? It's even worse than Nago and Megumi's inexplicable marriage at the end of Kiva. It's just...it doesn't...it's bad writing, man.

Inoue just tries too hard, he wants to do stuff that's "unexpected" for the finale, rather than what's the best way to close a show. Gai being killed by an ordinary mugger; Changerion's sloppy alternate world finale; Asumu deciding that after stalking Hibiki and the Tachibana gang for the entire show, he doesn't want to be an oni; another forced wedding in Kiva.

Agito's finale is just disappointing, but I'm surprised by his restraint with that one. Regular Inoue would have had Shouichi die in that last explosion, with those little Agito lights hitting the city and killing every character but Houjou and Taiichi.

Oh what the hell?! Sell out.....:loltongue:

You know what... he is entitled to his opinions as am I. Maybe I went a bit overboard on bitching at him for bitching at shows he dislikes.

Anyway, the only real issue I had with Jetman was how the fucking WHORE slut Kaori fucked Gai over totally. She used him and just skull fucked him.

hmmmmm... maybe dieing Gai wanted to go to the wedding before he died and punishment to the two. :loltongue:

I was actually going to state the same thing but decided not to. The entire Kaori+Ryu marriage was completely forced and contrived. Now if it was Gai and Kaori getting married at the end, wouldn't that have been different? wouldn't have it been better with them getting married, while mourning the loss of ryu which is when Gai thinks he saw ryu watching them from afar but when he looks back, it was just an illusion.

I do have to admit that I don't have a personal distaste for inoue as some others do. He does have a problem with ending shows (usually at the fifth to last episode if you look at it.) and ends up putting in things that just feels like forced character developement (the biker chick in agito was trite.) but I still like him as a writer.

My biggest problems with him are 1.) he doesn't know how to end his shows or build them up to a focal point, where everything ends up coming together. he usually ends up throwing something out there that has no overall meaning to the show and saying "this is it." and 2.) he doesn't have a clue how to write a show he didn't originally penned. this is evident in the second half of ryuki and the end of Hibiki both being retarded. I think Inoue is fine and dandy when he's doing his own work from beginning to end (sort of) but when he's thrown into a project after the initial writer left he just ends up doing the stupid dance for 20 episodes.

Agito's finale is just disappointing, but I'm surprised by his restraint with that one. Regular Inoue would have had Shouichi die in that last explosion, with those little Agito lights hitting the city and killing every character but Houjou and Taiichi.

Actually that would have been kinda cool to watch. Be honest, it would have been.

Now if it was Gai and Kaori getting married at the end, wouldn't that have been different?

I think it would be the same sort of situation. Kaori never really seemed to like Gai, just as Ryu never really liked Kaori, so that still would have been forced and out of place, IMO.

How's about no wedding. Or, hey, Satsuki and Raita got married, show that wedding, if you're really so gung-ho about weddings, Inoue.

I do have to admit that I don't have a personal distaste for inoue as some others do.

I still like a lot of Inoue's shows, don't get me wrong. I really like Jetman, Changerion, and Agito, which are all Inoue's. He wrote some good episodes of shows like Flashman, Maskman, Liveman, and Fiveman. It's everything after Agito that's been mostly...bad. Like Agito was a success, people applauded it for its twisty-turny storyline, and Inoue bought into the hype, as mattcomics said.

And I don't know how I forgot about the Faiz finale. Man, oh man -- even people who like that show really hate that finale. So, yeah, Inoue's just always been bad when handling finales.

He didn't take over Ryuki like he did Hibiki, though, but some of his Ryuki episodes did screw things up. Inoue was the one who decided to turn Kitaoka into an absolute clown, which I always hated. But Kobayashi was always the main writer, and did her own share of damage.
