Best Gundam TV series?

G. My thought on it is that it still has the essential messages Gundam tries to get across, but does it with a minimum of angst, a cast of characters that's actually likable, and that over the top martial arts show feel that I love.

Honorable mentions to Turn A (which I have yet to finish) and X (which I liked, but not quite as well.)

Zeta..I wanted to like Zeta, but it's about the 'best' example of the worst elements of Tomino's writing I can think of. This is also where I felt the NT thing jumped the shark, because it just got goofier in Zeta and afterward.

It's also worth mentioning that I hated the ending. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind bad endings, but Zeta's just comes completely out of nowhere, and is another Goofy Newtype Trick.

Being one of the people that got burnt on the box pre-order might not help my liking for the show, either.

I'm kind of a strange Gundam fan in that my viewing background is rather eclectic. Like (probably) most Gundam fans in the US, I got my start with Wing during it's airing on Cartoon Network, and thought it was the ****. It seemed so much more complex and interesting than any other animated television show I had seen until then (ironically, looking back on it, I consider Wing one of the preachiest and most straightforward Gundam shows of the franchise, but that's neither here nor there. After that, I started doing my research on the franchise, and I was hooked. However, I haven't actually SEEN that many series in their entirety. I saw the first movie in the original trilogy (dubbed VHS), a few select episodes (again, dubbed), and read all three novels. I've seen the first Zeta movie, and none of the series (although I'm planning on getting on that this month since it's currently streaming on Crunchy Roll). I never saw ZZ, but I saw Char's Counterattack. I missed out on F91 and V, and purposely skipped G (an action I now regret). I saw the first few eps of 0083, and saw all of 0080 and 08th MS team. I saw the first 10 eps of Turn A, and the Seed movies (but not the series itself). I've watched the first season and a half of 00 (at this point, I'm waiting until season 2 is either completely available on DVD, or Bandai posts it for streaming). I obviously can't say with any certainty which Gundam series is the best. But this is the internet, so I'll pretend I know what I'm talking about anyway.

It's really a shame OVA's aren't being included, because I'd choose 08th Team in a heartbeat. It was a great twist on Romeo and Juliet (even if it ended on a somewhat hopeful note, which is a plus for me, but I'm sure had quite a few people up in arms), it's characters were really subtle, yet very expressive. The animation was top-notch, and the action well choreographed. It really felt like Gundam without the bullshit, which made it feel like something special to me.

As for what's on the list...I REALLY like what I've seen of 00 so far, but I don't want to place my vote on that only to be disappointed by the rest of S2...so I'm going to hold off on an actual vote for now. Consider me a write-in for 08th Team.

Clearly someone needs to make a "best Gundam OVA" thread.

... though it only really has three voting options, and would rapidly degenerate into a holy war between 0080 and 08th MS fans.

We could always toss Endless Waltz on there and make it an even 4! Or just say "**** it" and make it a movie/OVA poll.

Wow 30% for G Gundam.

Well-deserved I guess but it's a little weird to see it get more than half the votes of MSG. (on that note, Wing has more than MSG? Are you serious?)
