Hideaki Anno makes a Gundam series

Sunrise's yearly Gundam conference wrapped up, I'm not one that gives a ****, but apparently one new announcement was the next Gundam entry. Did G-Woke flop? It under performed in the home market and gunpla have been shelf warming almost as hard as AMAIM so it's a safe bet that like with Gundam Seed and Destiny there was an audience and merch was sold, just not model kits which to Bandai means dud. Gundam GQuuuuuuX (6 Us), Hideaki Anno apparently had time to move from his upcoming Yamato movie to work on a Gundam series AND he's bringing his entire half of Gainax, now called Khara, to do work on it. Oh yeah AND Toho has signed on for distribution. Sunrise bringing in another studio... They did that with Outlaw Star and that sucked balls, but maybe they've learned in the last 30 years.

Being completely serious until I noticed the red haired MC was wearing a skirt I thought she was a boy. As for the PV... Are they ripping off Franxx and Mekaku City Actors? And the main Gundam looks really damn weird. Checking the staff on this...

FLCL sucked ass unlike it's superior sequels and he did Utena, very low quality filth that gets Tumblr orgasming because they think it has sex symbols or whatever. Also Melody of Oblivion which was mediocre. On the other hand Star Driver, Diebuster, and Redline are awesome and while Captain Earth had issues it has the best mascot in anime history so that's a plus. I've never seen Sailor Moon so I'm sure Dr. Kain will walk right in with his teacher finger wagging and lecture me on the sailor kino or something.

The guy in charge of mecha animation for the second Full Metal Alchemist movie and the last Rebuild of Evangelion movie... Why the hell does this Gundam look so fucking wrong? Looking here he did a lot of Gundam key animations... And fucking One Punch Man. Oh great, OPM was a turd sucker, but a lot of that was due to its inability to shut the hell up for ten seconds (not kidding, go back and watch it, NOBODY in season one goes longer than ten seconds without opening their mouth, it's beyond obnoxious).

Minor mechanical animator whose major work was... Those atrocious Gridman sequels Trigger shat out. And Promare, the worst movie in the history animation only rivaled by Lightyear. But he did work on the last Rebuild of Evangelion movie so....
>Ikeda Yumi
The character designer with this being one of his first major roles who worked on... He was another Rebuild 4.0 animator, specifically key animation. Also the second Little Bitch Academia OVA and those sucked.
>Ueda Haime
A small time guy whose only other major roles were the designs for Diebuster (nice) and Franxx (okay that explains it).
>Yatabe Toko
Another Rebuild 4.0 animator who also key animated the second Little Bitch Academia OVA and the ending sequences to both Trigger Gridman sequels.
>Yamashita Ikuto
The guy behind the mech designs in all of Evangelion (okay), Blue Submarine Number 6, and the Ishtar 12 from Gigantic Formula. Also the redesigns for Shin Ultraman and Kamen Rider (for the former he just made Ultraman skinny and take his color timer away and with the riders it was just copy paste The First with alternate color Shocker Riders).
>Komatsuda Daizen
The key animator for all four Rebuild of Eva movies, both Ghost in The Shell movies, the Tsubasa Chronicle movie, and the RahXephon compilation movie (all solid). He was also the storyboard and designer for Promare... Oof!
>Nakamura Mayumi
Guy that's done tons of key animation, especially for the Dragon Ball franchise and the Majestice Prince movie, that guy can execute some fight scenes.
>and finally Anno's partner in crime will be Tsurumaki Kazuya
Aside from working on trash like Otaku no Video and Patlabor he's got his hands on a lot of old Gainax stuff, nothing to whine about here.


Despite the red flags I'll give a few positives here:

-The animation looks leagues better than Iron Blooded Ovaries.
-Ichiro Oukouchi is nowhere near this unlike Woke from Mercury and Grendize U so we won't have another Valvrave clone.
-This isn't a movie so maybe Anno can get back to basics.
-Unlike Hathaway's Cash (going Beyond The Dime) I can actually see what the hell is going on.
-More than one person is animating this so it won't be chopped up pieces like whatever the hell went on with Twilight Axis.

But at the same time I've got the concern this will be pretencious as all hell, the cinematography has that obnoxious "we're so deep and super duper hot serial take us the seriously lol" vibe. Anno used to be able to pull that off, but ever since Shin Godzilla he's definitely lost something that kept that together. Bringing in one of the Utena guys... Oh dear. And with another female lead right after the last series had a 3deep5me yuri slog fest with barely any action in it, both of which are centered around dueling. Sunrise was quite hopped up on cinematic pretencious juice in the late 90s, looks like that nostalgia came home to roost. If nothing else, for the love of ****, don't make this the third vampire gundam series where the main character gets damaged from the main mech in a damn row. I don't know if whoever took over the franchise since 2015 has a life draining fetish and shoved it in IBO and Witch, but please keep that **** out this time.

Some rumors that were floating around /a/ turned out to be true, GQuuuuuuX (or G-Quack Gunduck as I'm calling it) turned out to be a what if scenario from the original MSG. What if Char's crew caught the RX-78-2 on Side 7 before Amuro could get in the cockpit? Welp, Anno's new series answers that! And Braw Bro gets renamed to Kikeroga because Challia is a main character in this universe. Listed below are pics from an early screening.

So basic thoughts: Big Zam, Braw Bro, the ships, and the Zeon characters including Char look perfectly fine and updated like they were out of The Origin. The Zakus would also be fine but those hips make them look like they have dump truck butts (and there's a construction variant now?). Guncannons look like they have wide pelvises. The Gundams.... Definitely trying to do Evangelion cosplay. Might be better if their heads weren't so weird looking.

It's over, best Gundam mainline series since Gundam 00! We got multiverses! None of the characters were annoying! Psycho Gundam Mark 2 came back! The humor was actually funny! The pacing was fast! Most episodes had action scenes! G-3 Gundam showed up to turn kaiju sized as the final boss! Normies were filtered! Chris Guanche of MAHQ whined that they brought back Amuro's voice actor because it's required that far leftists on Blue Sky have to bitch and moan about people's private lives while being unable to separate art and artists! (in case nobody is up to date I used to be left wing most of my life but I've been going centrist since those Hollywood strikes and Hogwarts Legacy "scandal" two years back) Well nobody tell him I snuck back in years ago hue hue hue. And for once Anno actually improved upon source material because holy **** were Shin Godzilla and Shin Ultraman disappointments to say the least. Shin Kamen Rider is in a franchise that is on every possible spectrum of scores, you can't really make anything stand out with the amount of entries it has had over the last half century.

Now to sit back and laugh at Sunrise being unable to get the other two Hathaway's Trash movies out any time soon. Or laugh at Redditors thinking boycotting Harry Potter will work.
